About Me

I have been taking care of my elderly parents for the last two years. This has cause me to make a lot of changes in my life. One of these changes is traveling. I went to Europe as a high school student and always said I would travel more "later". As life happened, I kept potting off travel for various reasons: work, family, etc. I finally came to the conclusion that if I keep waiting I may never get to do it so last year I started on my journey to see the world. I love seeing new places, meeting new people and learning about new cultures. My hope is to move overseas in the next few years to open a small hostel on a beach in the tropics. I am using my travel experiences to determine where that beach will be! (Please not that I am having trouble verifying my phone number but I will try to resolve that asap.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Given my current life situation, I have limited funds but I don't want that to stop me from traveling. I am very outgoing and love meeting new people. I am also a "go with the flow" kind of person. With these things in mind, couchsurfing seems like a great fit for me. I have done workaway and that is a wonderful way to get to know an area and a culture for a longer period of time (a month or more) but it isn't conducive to short trips the way that couchsurfing is. I often stay in hostels but sometimes they are a little too crazy for me. I think the opportunity to stay in a more relaxed home environment provides a great option for keeping travel fun and enjoyable. I like B&Bs for this reason but they can be pricey. I am hoping couchsurfing will provide a nice mix of the things I like best about hostels and B&Bs without the things I don't like. I look forward to meeting many new people and sharing some time and experiences with them!

Music, Movies, and Books

"Classic" rock (Zepplin, AC/DC/ Stones, Beatles, etc.), Classic books (To Kill a Mocking Bird, Old Man and the Sea); New Classics like Hunger Games and Handmaids Tale (Especially like books that have been made into movies)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hung out with llamas at Machu Picchu

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a teacher and life long learner so it is hard for me to narrow this one down but I will think about it and get back to you :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to cook and would love to help make a meal. I am also very neat and clean so I promise to leave my space clean and tidy. I can tell pretty good stories and I play a mean game of Gin Rummy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belize, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Peru, South Korea, Switzerland
