ABOUT ME

I love to be outdoors, hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing, birding. I love to work for a good cause to make a difference in how people live in the world. My partner and I have two teenage sons, the older one studying to be an engineer, the younger playing sports and loving 8th grade. I've lived in Alaska for over 20 years. I love southeast Alaskan temperate rainforest, the alpine, the intertidal, rocky beaches, not the devils club. I speak a few languages, enjoy trying to communicate across language hurdles. Challenging equals fun!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is live well and share the surplus. Live lightly, simply, with future generations in mind.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love to travel, and visiting friends new and old is number one. I have slept on many couches in many towns.

Intereses

A good conversation about the meaning and purpose of life, chewing over new ideas, coming up with plans and strategies to improve community life. Weeding the garden, turning the worm bin, feeding the chickens. Well, I'd like to have chickens. Build the coop first, see if we can grow crops here that would sustain chickens without importing corn from Iowa.

Música, películas y libros

Musical tastes eclectic - classical, world, folk, folk rock, live. Movies - mostly foreign, indie, documentary. Books - yes. Many many books, far too little time.

Algo increíble que he hecho

These are a few moments that have left me awestruck: the deep blue of glaciers calving, the high pitch of 10,000 surf scoters lifting off the water, ski trails through deep powder in subzero weather, the synchrony of 60 Alaskan and Chinese high school kids playing violin together at Beijing Youth Philharmonic.
