About Me

I'm a former university lecturer who couldn't quite shake off the travel bug and is now teaching English while traveling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My previous travelling experiences have been brilliant, and hostels are often fantastic places to stay and meet other travellers; but, by offering an opportunity to meet people who actually live in the place I'm visiting and know it as a local resident, couchsurfing offers a new and unique perspective. I enjoy meeting new people from different walks of life, and I hope I can reciprocate my hosts' generosity by sharing my own experiences and knowledge.

Interests

I was in an acapella choir for a few years while in the UK and love singing in harmony. Ive also played in various bands and try to see live music when possible. Teaching is definitely my professional passion as I believe a) we are all teachers, and b) great teachers change lives. Finally, getting into nature, especially to spot birds and other wildlife, is one of my favourite things to do EVER!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: alternative indie post punk from the 90s - Le Tigre, Babes in Toyland, Breeders, Shellac, Husker Du; but also done some rap/soul e.g Dan the Automator, DJ Shadow; new stuff by Childish Gambino, Jesca Hoop, St Vincent. Basically my taste is eclectic and makes no sense.

Books: The Great Gatsby; The Day of the Locust; Beloved; Stoner:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A difficult question, but Angkor Wat in Cambodia was pretty special.

Teach, Learn, Share

English classes, cookery demonstrations, singing in harmony, reading group discussion, arts and crafts.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a decent cook (especially vegetarian food); I love talking about culture, books, and travel; and I can even offer impromptu English classes!
