About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make a difference, be a part of this planet

ABOUT ME

I lived in one house all my life till 18, but I haven't lived anywhere longer than 2 years since. I studied in Ohio, Portland Oregon, Monterey, CA, Munich, Germany, a while in Dresden, and in Bordeaux France. Now I live in Rwanda, and who knows? Maybe I'll stay here longer than two years. I've been here since January 2013. After a lot of wandering, including working as a prep cook and hanging out on a lot of farms, it looks like I'm going to be an English teacher for a while.

PHILOSOPHY

I think I've stopped thinking about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couchsurfed while traveling through Europe in 2008. I now live on school property in a fairly remote area, but would welcome day visitors and would love to connect with the couchsurfing community in Kigali.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

a week traveling in Alsace, a week in Russia

Interests

I pretty much spend all of my time and energy thinking about my students and my curriculum. It's a big job, feeding future minds, you know? I love to do all kinds of things, like eat, hike, swim in the ocean, dance, cook, grow food, but most of that isn't going on here.

Music, Movies, and Books

Well, I am getting into post-colonial stuff cause that's where I am. I like fiction best but feel that I need to beef up on my historical knowledge. I am also learning more about young adult fiction as a part of my job. I have to say, I just don't find it satisfying! I'd take a classic over a bestseller any day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably sleeping in the middle of a lava field in Hawaii. I hear you can do the same thing in the Congo, just at a slightly higher risk.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I'm learning a lot about how to live in Rwanda and how to be a teacher, and I'd like anyone's perspectives on either! Personally, I'm interested in food and sustainability.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
