About Me

Work and go to grad school at a major university. I'm a single grad student/career girl graduating in December that believes in the virtues of travel even when funds are low. Sometimes I'm hermity and just want to relieve stress, and sometimes I'm extroverted and chatty and affectionate. I'm told I'm a delight to be around and very considerate and respectful.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting new people and cities. I don't have much money as a first generation grad student, but I try to make it happen. I usually stay in US hostels (the Germans always find my southern accent facinating) but thought this might be more fun.

Interests

Obviously higher education and administration, but that pays the bills. I love discovering and figuring out the transit systems for major cities. Frolicking in nature like a fairy. Travelling alone. Dancing and museums and art theaters and live drama. 420 Respectful. Partake and enjoy sharing but am respectful of the space, boundaries and preferences of others. Regional Modernism and PK-16 initiatives. Being cuddly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books I like a lot of dreary literary things. Stuff that brings you more fully into the reality of life. William Faulkner, Vladimir Nabokov, Dorothy Allison, and contemporary fiction. Marlon James' The Book of Night Women is amazing. You can learn so much about lived experience outside your own from books and find comfort in seeing yours on the page. Well written horror and a bit of mystery is nice. LOTS of non-fiction on medical, science, social science and history. Learning is fun.

I absolutely love audiobooks. Always already re-reading A Song of Ice and Fire series.

I mostly like serialized television like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Masters of Sex, Oz, etc. Though, Hannibal has my heart (Fannibal!) because of my love of the Lecter character. And select animation like Rick and Morty and Squidbillies.

Movies, I like serious and art house dramas that make you feel changed after you watch them and you can talk about for ages. Meta-comedy. Dramedy. Buluth and Disney/Pixar. Serious movies with unsimulated sex. My favorite genre is horror in all languages. Psychological/atmospheric but also exploitation and goretastic stuff. The French are sick geniuses. Finding lists of the most fucked up films/directors and watching those films. Martyrs, Old Boy, Bastard Out of Carolina, Irreversible, Last House on the Left (1972), Audition, anyone?

And I highly dislike romantic comedies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I accidently worked in a meth lab when I was 12. We didn't know the summer job was a front!

Teach, Learn, Share

Given enough time, I can teach you to write an academic research paper. How to laugh at death. Funny cat and dog pictures. I want learn how to be more easily socialize in groups outside work and educational setting. Making English muffin pizzas.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Charming, bubbly, accommodating personality. Great sense of boundaries if you want to be left alone. Clean, organized and respectful. Laid back, pretty chill. I will want to counter hospitality with hospitality.
