About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To eat an item of food indigenous to each country of the world..

ABOUT ME

My name is Jenny, and I live on a small (but fantastic) island in between England and Ireland (it's right in the middle of the UK, look it up!) Living in such a small place leads to itchy feet syndrome, so one day I set off to travel the world.. A year later I had not left Europe (its a very interesting place!) so I relocated to Argentina. I seemed to have a hard time leaving there as well and after a year I returned to my home island where I made a resolution to save my money and go to at least one new place every year!

PHILOSOPHY

I was told once that "Sometimes is life you just have to jump on your inflatable dinosaur and paddle off to find mount Olympus". I think that this can be applied to all aspects of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed so many times, I can't even count now! The people I've met have been so amazing and fun, and it's definately added to the travelling experience! I've hosted some friends here on the Isle of Man, and am very excited about hosting more :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots! My first ever couchsurf was in Warsaw back in 2009, and I've never looked back. I've surfed all around Europe, mainly with my travel buddy Katie, and I've hosted a few people at home on the Isle of Man. I've made a lot of friends and had a lot of good experiences.

Interests

Well, travelling, obviously.. Also books, films, history (especially tales of revolution!), games, silly stories, cocktails, food...

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: there's a time and a place for all types of movie, so my tastes are pretty varied! Shaun of the Dead, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Harvey, Red Eye, Goodbye Lenin, Hunchback of Notredame, Aladin, Sleuth, The Boat That Rocked, Slumdog Millionaire, Filth and Wisdom.
Music: Um, I'm not very good with the whole music thing.. The Beatles, Roxette, REM, The Killers, Queen...
Books (or authors): Christopher Brookmyre, Jon Evans, Terry Pratchett, HG Wells, Douglas Adams, Robin Hobb, and although I don't like to read him, Jack Kerouac, because I love discussing him :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitch hiked with two friends from Istanbul to Copenhagen, which involved hours sitting in the back of police vans, joining in protests, giving a talk at a university, and a lot of kitkat chunkies. They were easily the most amazing few months of my life.
But to be honest (and a little cheesy) the most amazing thing I've seen is how generous and kind people can be to complete strangers, going out of their way to help/feed/transport them and expecting nothing in return..

I also once saw an actual dance off. Between a man dressed all in white with a porn star moustache, and a friend who had some serious moves.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn about the different countries I go to and the different places people are from, what the people are like, what fun there is to be had. I also love cooking (and eating) so anyway you can help in that respect is appreciated! I would really love to speak a language other than English - I'm not very good, but if you don't mind hearing me ruin your language, that would be great :)
Teaching.. Well, I can teach you anything you want to know about the Isle of Man! Or the words to many cheesy musicals.. Wait, maybe I shouldn't confess to that..

What I Can Share with Hosts

Enthusiasm to learn about your hometown and what makes it special, some silly stories from my life, and some excellent recipes from around the world!
