HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couchsurfing so I don't really know what to say here...My first experience with it will be in Istanbul next month. However, I do have several friends that are practically veterans at this, and they all highly recommend it. So, I guess I'm participating by sleeping on people's couches. BUT, when I do finally settle down somewhere I can guarantee a couch for some weary travelers.
