Overview
About Me
I was born in Berlin, Germany (German father, Danish mother) in 1934, living in Denmark since 1939.
Passed final Medical examination in 1962.
Research Librarian at the University Library in Copenhagen 1962-1996. Also employed (mostly part time) by medicinal firm of Novo Nordisk (insulin) 1963-72 andf 1981.85.
Feeling myself a World Citizen since I was 17 years old. Worked as a volunteer for the Danish Branch of the World Federalist Movement from I was 17 to 27 years old. The reading of two books in the summer of 1966 (when I was 32 years old) changed my life convincing me that - apart from nuclear war - the by far greatest threat to the future of mankind was the combination of population growth, the depletion of most kinds of natural resources and the dangerous effects of mankind on the environment (extinction of species and habitats, pollution, soil erosion, climate change etc.), and after the death of my wife in 1996 I retired to dedicate my life wholly trying to influence public opnion in Denmark on the necessity of focusing and acting on this problem.
In 2000 I arranged the first conference in Denmark (in the Danish Parliament) about "peak oil" with the British oil geologist Colin Campbell, and in 2013 I was deeply involved in planning a two days international conference, also in the Danish Parliament, with the title: "Is the World Moving Towards or Away From Ecological Sustainability
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As already mentioned I have felt being a global Citizen since I was 17 so I am interested (as a host) in meeting people from other countries and cultures discussing many kinds of subjects, inter alia, problems concerning the long-term future of mankind. But also discussing many other subjects if of possoble interest to CSs. My private library of 240 shelf meters covers quite a lot of subjects spanning from astronomy and human ecology to philosophy and religion.
I would generally, however, prefer combining talking with walking a shorter or longer tour (up to about 8-9 km; I am, after all, 84 years old).
I have a private real cinema (not a tv which I sold three years ago!) and many fine films/movies (also some interesting documentaries). Also a lot of music CDs and grammophone records
Interests
A very important interest of mine is human ecology (= ecology of man or environmental science), but asuggested above quite a lot of other subjects are represented in my library and of interest to me
.
Otherwise: Music, hikibg, movies (I have a fairly great collection and a projector for showing them on a screen), chess
Music, Movies, and Books
Classic music, but also, e.g., panpipes, Yann Tiersen, ragtime etc.
The Bridges of Madison County, The Crying Game, The Tango Lesson, Opera movies etc. etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Deciding to host couchsurfers at my age (81)
Studying Economics at the University of Copenhagen since 2007
Teach, Learn, Share
Well, I cannot cook, but otherwise? In spite of my extremely wide reading I don't think that I can really TEACH anything, but hopefully I could still share a bitfrom my wide reading.
Listening to music or viewing films.
Birkerød is not a suburb of Copenhagen and surrounded by lakes, woods, and fields so if of interest we could combine talking with walking, a combination I actually prefer instead of only talking.
There are many museums , there is the famous Tivoli, and other attractions in Copenhagen and environment
What I Can Share with Hosts
I have had insulin-dependent diabetes since 1969 and I am 84 years old now so I don't expect to travel much anymore
