Around The World By Bike (HD) - Forest Kim

My name is Jeong Hwan Kim from South Korea.
In fact, Kim is my last name and Jeonghwan is my first name.
But Kim is easier, and everybody calls me Kim.
It's better you know, there are too many Kims is in my country.
Since 2011, I'm traveling around the world by bike.
I started from Russia(the Trans-Siberian), went to Finland, traveled many countries in Europe, few countries(Turkey, Cyprus, Israel, Palestine territory, Jordan) in the Middle East, few countries(Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal) as well in Africa, from Senegal I flew to Ushuaia, and traveled Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil(Hitchhiking).
Personally, since my father passed away(2002), I used to work hard day and night, even on weekends in order to take care of my family. I used to teach Japanese language to Korean people, translated too. Although I worked hard, my life didn't get better, I was always busy to survive, and felt exhausted, dying. I didn't like my life very much, I wanted to take a rest especially for my mental health. I love my family, and they are suffering without my help, but I needed time for myself too. So, I started to pedal to the world. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough money to travel the world, I can say I had almost nothing. I tried to get tickets for the Trans-Siberian, didn't worry about far future. Many people helped me on the road, by foods, places to stay, what I needed. Specially, I called these people "The Good Samaritans".

[Places to stay]
I do couchsurfing and warmshowers. But I camp a lot too when I didn't find any hosts or when I want to be alone.

Sometimes, when I really didn't have anything to eat, I tried to find fruits from natures. For example, today oranges, yesterday oranges, the day before yesterday oranges! Of course, apples, grapes, anything I find. Depend on luck. But fortunately, I was blessed to try many different foods from the world, even though there were many difficult moments sometimes.
[Crossing Oceans]
I can go anywhere by bike except sea. Crossing ocean is always a big problem for me. Sometimes I try to hitchhike a boat. Once I made it in Israel.

I wanted to hitchhike a boat again from Europe to South America. I wished I could work on a boat. And I really did my best for searching a boat, but I didn't get any prize. And then I went to Senegal, I tried again my best to find a boat. But again I failed. It was tough time for me. I was kind of depressed in front of the Atlantic Ocean. There is a traveling community in South Korea, they got inspired from my traveling story. Each person decided to donate little amount of money, eventually, more than 100 people helped me to get a flight ticket to cross the Atlantic Ocean. So, I could fly to Ushuaia, Argentina from Senegal.
After that I traveled Argentina, Chile, Uruguay. I wanted to travel in Brazil by bike too. But my final destination is Alaska, I already spent almost 4 years on the road, I was afraid of spending too much time before I get to Alaska. So, I decided to travel by hitchhiking in Brazil. I made a short video about my trip in Brazil. The title of video is "The Beauty of Brazil (HD) - Forest Kim"

I'm fluent in Korean, Japanese. I think my English is so-so. I'm learning Spanish.
I don't expect any luxurious stuffs to my hosts. I can sleep in my tent too if it's necessary, just bit lazy to fold it again. I just need a safe place to stay and friendship. I'm curious about almost everything. I'm not a vegetarian, not a smoker either. I'm talkative, not very materialistic, not a party person, but depends on the mood, of course. I think the world is telling us many lies, but of course I don't want to be cheated, and I don't want you to be either. Some people consider me as a hero, the others judge me as a beggar. In fact, what people think about me is not very important, I don't know yet what I am. I'm still searching.
[How to finance my trip]
I like to take photos, and I made postcard. I'm selling postcard on the street. I also write people's name or short sentences in Korean or Japanese language behind of postcards or on a piece of paper such as "사랑해(It means I love you in Korean)", "생일 축하해(It means Happy Birthday in Korean)"
But the problem is that many times police don't let me sell anything on the street. They always make me down. And my priority is knowing places and culture, not selling. I don't want to invest too much time for selling in my trip. I prefer to sell my postcard to a group of people like a company, or a group of cyclists, etc. I also sell keyholders shape of bicycle. I want my hosts to introduce a group of people who is interested in helping my trip by buying my postcards, keyholders, or just writing names in Korean or Japanese. Or if my hosts can recommend a good place to sell my things without being disturbed, it will be great. If you know any journalists from TV, Radio, Newspaper, I can have an interview, tell my stories to people, and I can ask helps, too.
Everything else is better we find out when we met.
