About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live life to its fullest by experiencing new places, events and activities, and meeting new people.
ABOUT ME
I am an easy going guy who loves to travel to see new places and meet new wonderful people. I'm very easy to get along with, organized, and looking to live life to its fullest.
PHILOSOPHY
Live life all the time. Travel as much as possible now - retirement is too far away.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I surf. I host. I love it.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had a great variety of experiences both hosting and traveling. I've surfed all around the US, as well as in South Africa (which provided better experiences than the World Cup itself, admittedly) and Eastern Europe. I love meeting international visitors, in particular, but really enjoy anyone with whom I can have a good conversation over dinner to discuss our travels, interests, and lives.
Interests
I love nature: being outdoors, hiking, running, cycling - all these things give me great positive energy. I am always interested in learning something new, and sharing some of my knowledge with others: in particular, I am a transportation nerd (it is my profession, after all), and love history.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy a variety of music, particularly whatever may be local or culturally linked to the area I'm visiting. At home, I enjoy listening to a number of artists including Adele, Madonna, Florence+The Machine, U2, Coldplay, and Gaga, as well as country songs from my youth.
I've always struggled to list my "favorite" movie, but I'm down for watching about anything at least once. I enjoy history, so I do watch (and read) a lot of documentaries. David McCullough is one of my favorite authors, particularly his books that weave civil engineering accomplishments with the historical narrative of the time, like The Path Between the Seas, which is about the building of the Panama Canal and has to be one of my favorite books. I also enjoy reading the "classics", Grapes of Wrath being one of my favorites.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I love being outdoors in nature, and so two of my favorite experiences involve the power of nature. When I was in Alaska at Glacier Bay National Park, I was on a boat and saw this massive chunk of ice calve into the sea. The sight of that beautiful chunk of blue ice just crashing into the water was unbelievable. On the opposite side of the temperature spectrum, I was lucky to be in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park when the lava flows from Kilauea reached the ocean. I was able to drive right to the spot where the lava had covered the road, and actually walk on top of this new rock, still warm from flowing lava underneath. What's more, I could look down through bright cracks in the lava at my feet and actually see moving lava below me. Nature is so awesome.
Teach, Learn, Share
I study transportation engineering, so I have a lot of in-depth commentary on things seemingly mundane from high speed rail to traffic signal timings to transit deficiencies to highway congestion. I also love history: have a lot to share, and love to learn.
