About Me

My name is Jera, which is an ancient rune symbol that means "reaping of the harvest". In a nutshell: I'm a student, vegan, queer, polyamorous, she/her pronouns, and an avid lover of rats, eating, collages, music, and observing.

I've been vegan for 9 years, and proudly one of 'those people' that thinks eating healthy on a budget is fun. I don't have a car so I get around via walking, biking, and public transportation mostly. I'm a barista at an amazing local coffee shop in Salt Lake City, where all my coworkers are my best friends. It's always 4:20 to me. I love staying up late and getting up early, taking part in community theatre, making latte art, magazine collages are fun, and in my spare time I get some homework done.

Random facts: I'm an unschooler now going to college. I was gluten-free for 6 years as a kid, our whole house was basically GF because of my mother's celiac disease. I'm not an asshole vegan, I'll eat honey occasionally and I'm not eating this way to smash on your existence. Music is the shit, I love it all. I love traveling solo and just jamming to music while wandering aimlessly. Airports are the best, as are claustrophobic spaces.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new friends in new places. I love traveling alone, but hate being lonely while traveling :) Hostels are great but this is much more personal, plus who doesn't love a good fucking couch?

Interests

I'm super into art of all kinds, human and nonhuman activism, complaining about our new president, music, rats, cats, being and talking about being queer/polyamorous, travel, biking, sewing, DIY projects. I can talk super abstractly or get real as fuck. Just depends on the situation. And how many drinks I've had. Even if it's not listed here I'll probably like talking about it, the only exception being sports-- you'd have to explain the rules to me first >_<

Music, Movies, and Books

Music faves: Milo & Otis, Phantogram, Grimes, The Sounds, Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Alt-j, Imogen Heap, Nellie Mckay
Book faves: Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, His Dark Materials
Movie faves: Ratatouille, Kiki's Delivery Service, Miss Congeniality, Planet Earth

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not earth shattering, but cool: One time, in Maui, when I was 16, I helped a woman harvest a ton of the psychotria viridis leaves that are used to make iowaska. Yoga on a Costa Rica mountaintop was pretty bitchen, too.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll always want to talk and get excited about veganism, dumpster diving, queer rights, animal rights, polyamory, rats, art, music, and new topics I've never heard of!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll cook you vegan (gluten-free, too, if you want!) food, and always tidy up after myself. Your pets will also get lots of TLC :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Costa Rica
