About Me
I've been a CS member for a year. Some friends were talking about it and it sounded cool so I signed up. I haven't had the opportunity to stay with any one until recently. I will be in LA all of October and I think that staying with locals is the best way to experience anywhere. I'm as excited about meeting new people as much as I am nervous about it.
I spent most of my life in the Deep South. I grew up mostly in the center of the Bible Belt. I have two brothers and we were raised with proper southern manners. We open doors for ladies, carry their bags and say "yes, ma'am."
I left high school early to join the work force and forge my own way in life. I moved to the MS Gulf to work in a bigger city. After a time, I realized that I wanted to expand my boarders and experience more of life.
So, I joined the Army to see the world. The Army gave me the opportunity to travel a little and spend a year in Iraq. Living in a foreign country was one of the best things that I have ever done. I gained a first hand experience as a foreigner in a foreign land. At the same time, I was a soldier. I learned a lot about myself and what I really thought about war.
I'm a simple, easy going guy. I like to hike, fish, swim, just as much as a cold beer and conversation. I like sight seeing but I was not raised to run after pop culture trends. I think of myself as down to earth, and CAF. I don't have a higher education like most Couchsurfers. I do have my GI bill and plan on getting a higher education. I'm just looking for a college with the right fit. I'll be checking out campuses and the surrounding areas during my stay.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
There are so many reasons why I'm interested in Couch surfing. Top reason is that It's a great way to get a genuine perspective on a perticular area.
Now, that I've completed my first surf, I'm glad that I set out on this adventure. It was enriching. My host was kind, generous, funny and easy to hang out with. He showed me around town. We went on a few hikes in the area. I have met so many wonderful people in the short time that I have been couch surfing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A few years ago the apartment building where I was living caught on fire. A friend and I were chilling on the balcony late at night and noticed some strange light and noise like glass breaking. Then a huge plume of smoke came out of no where. It was a really odd noise and easy to hear because it was really quiet that night.
The apartments didn't have any fire alarms so there was no warning. More and more huge plumes of smoke passed the balcony. No one but myself and a friend were out side checking out where the smoke was coming from. I started walking towards the smoke and I noticed that a 1st floor apartment was blazing. I ran back to my apt and tried to wake up my room mate, he thought I was joking and blew me off.
By the time I got back outside the whole corner of the apartment building was in flames and the apartment above started to burn. Still no one was outside. I stated banging on doors and windows. A lot of people said they didn't smell or hear anything. I don't know how so many people were oblivious. I finally woke my room mate up after our apartment started to smell like fire.
There was thick toxic smelling smoke that hurt to breath in everywhere. I had to crawl on the floor of the second story breezeway to avoid the smoke and get to people's doors & windows.
People started to scramble. It was more than 45 min after we first noticed the smoke before the fire department arrived. There were flames shooting out of the top story apartment windows and roof by the time everyone had got out.
