About Me

Canadian. Big fan of empathy, curiosity, and solid banter. Somewhere between John Oliver and Lucille Bluth.

I like to think I'm a pretty decent chap to have a pint and conversation with (though better if you like stories told in wildly inaccurate / inconsistent accents).

As a houseguest, I lean towards over-communication. Very neat and respectful. Happy to help with cooking, dishes, cleanup. Introverted, but social. More a dinner party than a loud club kind of person.

PS - If keen to get a feel for what I'm all about, some of my writing can be found at https://www.quora.com/profile/Jeremy-Arnold-4.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Music, Movies, and Books

Being honest, I have the musical tastes of a 14 year-old white girl. Lots of Taylor Swift and Chainsmokers. I should probably be more ashamed than I am. But I do take in the symphony now and then just to class it up.

I mostly watch HBO (Westworld, Game of Thrones, The Wire, True Detective) and old NBC comedies (Seinfeld, Community, Parks & Rec, The Office). I like anything that explores the human condition.

Definitely a book nerd. Hard to beat Dickens or Hugo. These days I mostly read to research a piece I'm writing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I invested a little over three years into a small community in northern Alberta. What began as a speaking gig at a children's camp turned into creating and running a network of youth development programs. Deeply challenging and rewarding. Ask, if interested.

Teach, Learn, Share

I recently co-founded a dating startup (launchapp.io). If you have questions about online dating or navigating the relationships that start there, I have mountains of good research (and dubious advice).

Other skills:

- Reciting the alphabetical backwards faster than you can forwards.

- Impressing easily-impressed strangers (see previous point).

- I can do that thing from Before Sunrise (i.e., composing a poem quickly using random words).

- Singing off-key loudly and without shame.

- Baking things with pumpkin in them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm an enthusiastic listener. I like to think I ask decent questions. Not a terrible cook or storyteller.

I've also got a decade of professional experience in copywriting + marketing, + startups. Happy to be a sounding board if you have content or plans/ideas you want a second opinion on.
