One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
What's the craziest thing I've ever done? Well up until recently, I'd say some of the craziest things I have done wouldn't be appropriate to share under the "about me" section of a couchsurfing profile. But now, I can without a doubt say the craziest thing I've ever done was also the single best decision I've ever made. It all started with me talking to a couch surfer who was planning on coming to study in Toronto. She was looking to meet new people and I too, love meeting people from all around the world. (One of the major benefits of living in toronto). Her visa process was delayed so it ended up being several months of back and forth messages. I was already planning a trip to South America for New Years and decided to go visit her in Rio. The plan was for her dad to show us around rio and then we were going to go to this beautiful beach town called Arraial Do Cabo for a few days for NYE. (Excellent place I might add... but try and go when it's not New Years.. it's ridiculously busy and you might end up getting cranky when you're trying to find parking). What's the worst that could happen? Maybe it was a plot and she was gonna rob me once I got there? Steal my kidneys and sell them on the black market? All possibilities but very, very unlikely. Especially for after how much we had been talking. Plus, I've done my fair share of partying and I'm not overly confident that my kidneys would hold much value, even on the black market. I knew this girl had a great personality but once we actually met in real life she was even better! This is not too common, I've tried tinder.. I've tried tinder a lot. So after a few days, some major travel hiccups (our air bnb completely flooded, had to take multiple uber trips to the airport which is a 50 dollar cab each way to pick up our rental car.. since I forgot to bring my passport, etc..) we really hit it off and extended our stay. I canceled the rest of my trip and went to visit her home town! The rest is history! So to sum it up, our first date was with her dad, and I met my future wife on couch surfing.. thanks couch surfing! Orange is the new black, 30 is the new 20 and couch surfing is the new tinder!
