About Me

Greetings! I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Chicago in the History of Religion & Culture of South Asia. I am a quiet, conscientious, jocund guy, I enjoy meeting lost of different people from different paths in life. Coffee or a real Indian Chai (I'm usually prepared to make it!), or a drink and maybe a night out dancing? :-) I'm new to couch surving but I'm a vetran airbnb'er, looking forward to meeting new people here!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel, meet new people, see the world, and share stories with all the good people along the way.

Interests

I love, above all, to surf, there is just nothing like being pushed by water! I also play TENNIS -- always looking for partners to play with (I usually travel with my tennis gear), road bike, mountain bike... I enjoy translating old poetry, writing about it, teaching, South Asian literature and culture, and to eat... especially Vietnamese food.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in an Indian village and performed a 7 day ritual reading of a text in Old Marathi, something they had never seen a foreigner do before!

Teach, Learn, Share

I do love to teach -- South Asian religion, culture, history, literature, sea kayaking (I used to be a professional guide), swimming, tennis, cycling. And, I tutor people on Macintosh computers and Apple peripherals. :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Real Indian CHAI!, good stories, an eating and drinking companion, good conversation on Indian language, culture, and (limited amount of) Indian politics, thoughts on late capitalism, a bottle of good bargain wine, a limited but growing knowledge of Bourbon, a good coffee, tales of water and waves and mountains and snow!
