About Me

Just finishing up taking time out to explore more of Europe. I'm heading to do a masters come the autumn and for now all my travelling is to open days. Which in fairness is still pretty great.

I do travelling usually in the form of walk, get tired, tent, sleep, repeat. I really enjoy being outdoors with a good idea where I'm going but no solid plan of exactly how I'm getting there. And chilling out back in the city is so much more rewarding afterwards.

I learn about a culture wherever I go and trying to pick up some of the local language, preferably from the locals.

I was raised on a farm and worked on a ship so I know the importance of keeping a clean space and getting on well with new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really love getting to know a city by walking it as much as I can, finding the wee strange places and meeting local people.

Aside saving money couchsurfing gives you a great kickstart to a new location through the people you stay with and I find that's invaluable when I'm trying to get a feel for somewhere. As well as that I'm consistently surprised by how diverse a culture can be over so small an area, so getting to know people from wherever I'm going helps me to understand that more.
Helps to have a chat too and practice the language.

Interests

So when I'm travelling I'm mainly interested in new foods and traditions, history, archaeology, hiking and simply exploration for the sake of it.

At home it's much the same I guess, just more focused.

Music, Movies, and Books

Accounts of exploration and expedition, fiction from Iain M. Banks, Steven Erickson, Patrick Rothfuss.
I listen to whatever music I can, I'm into a bit of everything and used to host a radio show back in Galway. Always looking for strange new stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked up to glacier in Iceland, solo, over uncertain snow, with no contours as a guide, in unsuitable footwear. Not the smartest thing I've ever done but definitely an incredible experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a decent cook. Well I'm an imaginative cook and it's almost always edible and tasty.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I cook a lot, I can certainly teach a bit of that and would love to learn.
I can probably try fix your computer, if it isn't a Mac.
I can hold a basic conversation in Irish so if you'd like a bit of a language you can only use in (few) parts of Ireland and (one) part of Newfoundland you're welcome to it!
I may know what's wrong with your dog, I grew up in the country around animals and get on pretty well with them.
I love bakeries and breakfast, drop me a line on anywhere good!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Brazil, Czech Republic, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guinea-Bissau, Iceland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
