About Me

CURRENT MISSION

As a Guest: Understand my own country better so I can get perspective on the rest of the world. I grew up in a marvelous melting pot here in the SF Bay Area and I realize I live in a bubble world where I should understand more about the US culture to gain perspective.

Hosting: Hosting travelling musicians and touring bicyclists

ABOUT ME

I like to think I have a healthy sense of adventure, but then you folks all blow me away with your stories!

I constantly explore the beauty of my local area, which I roughly define as California. I'm a huge advocate of traditional folk music and dance, an avid bicyclist and a runner.

I love music of all types, and host music sessions and infrequent house concerts in my home.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe people should aspire towards great visions and I realize sometimes help is needed to reach those goals.

I'm a healthy mix of idealist and realist. I appreciate those who do not give up on their dreams and I often help people think though the steps to achieve their goals.

I'm very open minded, but grounded.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to host ambitious people who decide to do bike touring or who have decided to take their band on the road.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't done any myself, but have plans in a few years to do serious bike trekking myself. I have had several friends with positive experiences. It seems like a great service to both the host and guests.

Music, Movies, and Books

Cheesy sci-fi movies, deep & philosphical scifi or fiction books...or just completely pulp nonsense when I need a break, history, etc.

Music: Huge folk music nerd here. Love almost all types. I love to sing, but am a terrible instrumentalist.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went under the Great Pyramid of Khufu. I was in a folk music pub and met the members of the Scottish Parliament the day Sean Connery was knighted. I once presented to the CIO of the United Nations in just my underwear (the phone call was at 3 am). I've sung in a concert hall, biked the Death Ride twice, failed at my own company - succeeded starting a national network of local events websites with friends, once ran across a mountain range to attend an Irish Music Session.

Live awesomely, my friends.

Teach, Learn, Share

I sing 18th Century English and Scottish ballads. I know a ridiculous number of English folk and Maritime songs.

I can teach English Country Dances.

I know some really obscure landmarks of the SF Peninsula and South Bay.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to sing - Happy to lead you in traditional folksongs from around the world. I also like to cook. I also have infectious energy. ;)

Countries I’ve Visited

Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Canada, Egypt, England, France, Ireland, Isle of Man, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin (French part), Scotland, South Africa, Virgin Islands, U.S., Wales
