About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Circling the Globe to Work and to Play
ABOUT ME
We are a couple that is interested in travelling anywhere, experiencing every type of culture and serving people in need. We have travelled to many places for shorter periods of time, but this year we are circling the globe, setting down in numerous places we have not yet seen or explored. We love children and trying new things. We are hoping to see all the places that only locals would know about.
PHILOSOPHY
We strongly believe in giving our time and our energy to people who are less fortunate. Many of our cultural experiences have been from stepping outside of Canada and living amongst some of the poorest of the poor. We have been very blessed to set aside this year to work with the poor and do some sightseeing along the way. As we journey this year, we're hoping to gain more direction and insight as to where we might end up. Ultimately we believe we could make a lifetime of living and serving somewhere else but we're not sure yet where we'll end up.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We love meeting new people, and as we travel we look forward to forming friendships and sharing adventures with old friends, as well as new friends that we'll be meeting for the first time. We're open and honest, and hope to be respectful of the Couch Surfing process as we learn the ropes. Right now we're on the road so we are ready to surf!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Our first experience surfing will be in Australia! A good friend of ours has surfed for years and has highly recommended we try surfing for ourselves. We are really hoping that we have the opportunity to meet lots of great people and try our best to be excellent guests by cooking something Canadian and using the word "eh" at the end of every second sentence (lol). We couldn't be more thankful if people do respond to our requests, especially since we are quite new at this. It is going to be a great privilege to meet many new people along the way!
Interests
We love to get outdoors and explore whenever we visit new places. Often we don't like to sit in one place! We have great interest in whatever culture we find ourselves surrounded by and the more people we get to meet, food we get to eat, and beauty we get to experience the better!
Traveling and being with people will consume most of our time this year as we work and scope out the world. We are hoping that once we return home we might be able to do it all over again :)

Music, Movies, and Books
We don't seem to watch many movies, unless it's a really cold winter in Canada, which it usually is. Really enjoy foreign films, comedies, suspense and dramas. Braveheart, Young Einstein, The Princess Bride and Les Miserables have been watched several times over and over.
In the music department we definitely couldn't tell you what the top 40 hits are but we enjoy listening to most music from contemporary and indie rock to country and classical. We love being able to take suggestions of what people are listening to or else we keep listening to the same music that came out 2 or 3 years ago…
Recent titles we've read: 1491, The Great Divorce, The Kingdom of this World, Superfreakonomics, Crazy Love, The Problem of Pain, The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing spectacle we've seen is probably Victoria Falls and then we ziplined across the gorge beneath it. Maybe next time we'll try the bungee jump! We also enjoyed our experience petting lion cubs at the African zoo.
Teach, Learn, Share
We have learned that some of the most valuable ways to use your time aren't the ones that you get paid for, the ones you work the hardest for or the ones that you plan to make happen. Now that we're traveling and working for no wage, we feel free to continue our work with the poor, build relationships with people who live far removed from our culture and enjoy the richness that each new day has to offer. We are hoping to live life differently and share our story with others who also do not want to live the same like everyone else. We are so blessed to be able to do this and hopefully the journey will never stop.
