About Me

Update October 2021: Moved to The Hague, studying lute.

Update: In Cleveland for the last few months.

Update: In Madrid till June or July on a Fulbright grant. After that, ???

I'm a professional guitarist and player of random plucked-string instruments. Inasmuch as I have a focus, it is classical music, especially contemporary chamber music. At the moment, I'm playing in a Disney musical and a traditional Irish/folk band. I'm teaching mostly middle schoolers at an arts magnet school here in Columbus.

Before getting back into music, I was working on a vegetable farm. And before that, I tried--unsuccessfully--to move to Spain to study guitar. ...And before that, I was teaching Spanish in Charlottesville, Virginia, and gardening part-time.

I was in the Peace Corps for two years in Ecuador. I went to college in Richmond, Virginia. During my junior year of college, I lived in Spain for a year. I spent my senior year of high school in India.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live simply and reasonably, and not get overwhelmed by everything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My profile is subject to chronic neglect, competing in vain with the piles of sheet music lying around my room.

I've surfed a few couches, and I've hosted a total of one couchsurfer! I'd like to host more, but I don't really feel comfortable hosting people when I have roommates who are not couchsurfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfjng experience: I stayed with somebody in Lavapies, in Madrid. It was June. We stayed up late, drinking one of those big bottles of San Miguel beer together. We talked for quite awhile. It was my first night back in Spain, and I could barely speak Spanish.

Since then, I've met several close friends through couchsurfing, generally on summer trips to Europe, and above all, in Madrid... I've also hosted a few times, and those have all been pleasant experiences.
