About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking to improve my dessert skills...

ABOUT ME

Hi there!

I'm the kind and gentle type - I'm not an in-your-face sort of person. But that doesn't mean that I shy away from having fun and being adventurous. I love to meet people from all walks of life, and love to hear their stories. I have a couple of my own, too!

I believe that life should be based on meaningful, sincere and communicative relationships. We spend so much time around people but often make such little effort to relate to them - don't worry, I'm guilty of ignoring people too! That's why I've decided to discover the world of CouchSurfing - I want to engage with those who realise that there are some crazy people out there! And I mean good crazy, not bad crazy. But hey, it's all part of the experience I suppose.
I also like to get loose sometimes and listen to techno.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I'm living in Lyon, France and am studying a masters degree in translation. I'm living in a sharehouse and want to finally give back some of the CouchSurfing love I've received over the years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have CouchSurfed numerous times, exclusively in Europe. My first experience is one that I will never forget...for all the wrong reasons. You should probably ask about that experience. It's one of those stories I was talking about!

Interests

I want to learn more about growing food sustainably and organically. I want to learn how to cook food in a way that respects where it is from. I eat meat but I buy it organically - for me that is one of the most important food choices one can make. We're not here to treat animals badly. I believe that if they lead happy lives and if the way in which they are farmed respects the environment then it is OK. Small scale, diverse organic farming is what I try to support.
As I have said, this year I'm embarking on a voyage that will take me to France to live for at least a year. I'm looking forward to consolidating my French and meeting all the wonderful people that the world has to offer - a world that provides endless opportunities for interesting encounters, and I want to be a part of as many as I can.
I am also interested in eco-construction - building houses that are efficient to run and are built from natural materials. One day I hope to build my own eco-house, so I will look to work as a volunteer on some projects.
I love music - I play the piano, from which my appreciation of classical music has grown, and enjoy music of all genres. I have a big soft spot for electronic music too...

Music, Movies, and Books

Requiem for a Dream
Amadeus
The Big Lebowski
Pulp Fiction
So I Married An Axe Murderer
Baseketball
The Grand Budapest Hotel (and anything else by Wes Anderson)

A Clockwork Orange (the book and the film!)
The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith by Thomas Keneally
Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan
Anything and everything by Roald Dahl, who filled my childhood with sweet memories.

This is list is far from comprehensive, or even representative of the sorts of films/books I like. But it's a start!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving a truck full of frozen fish through the mountains in Turkey on terrible roads, at night, while snowing, just because Turkish people are...very trusting and open!

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn more about photography. Taking one-off photos for me is an infinitely rewarding experience.
I am deeply intrigued by language, and as a result want to learn as many as possible - for me, languages are separate but overlapping puzzles that fit together, and I'm constantly searching for the missing pieces that I've most likely dropped under the table...
I love to cook and I know that my interest in food and cuisines will be a life-long learning curve, but that's one of the most attractive things about it.

Countries I’ve Visited
