Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a pretty avid reader and prefer Fiction and Sci-Fi. I am a sucker for a good steampunkish period piece. I'm currently enjoying Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century books. Some authors I have read, respect and enjoy are: Piers Anthony (esp his Incarnations of immortality series), Neil Gaiman, Orson Scott Card (He may be a dick in real life, but his writing is pretty phenomenal), C.D. Payne (Youth in Revolt made me laugh out loud so many times while reading it), Drew Magary (The Postmortal), Rick Riordan, J. K. Rowling (Come on, you gotta love the Potterverse), D. H. Lawrence, Sir Arther Conan Doyle, and more . . .

I love movies - at the theater (the bigger the screen the better - Taipei features the largest IMAX screen in Asia) or at home (yeah, I have a projector - I'm pretty fantastic). I like huge sweeping epics, Japanese and Chinese films, sci-fi, b-movies, rom-coms, make-your-brain-work documentaries, pretty much anything the Criterian Collection releases. Wes Anderson's entire catalogue, and so much more . . .

Networks: BBC, PBS, AMC

Streaming Web Series: The Guild, 5 Minute Comedy Hour, My Gimpy Life, Dr Horrible's Evil Sing Along Blog, Between Two Ferns, etc.

Shows: I have been on a Netflix TV cavalcade the last couple of months. Watching entire series from start to finish, from Battlestar Gallactica & Breaking Bad to American Horror Story (Looking for my next fix) fix. Some of my favorites are Archer, Arrested Development, The IT Crowd, Green Wing, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Babylon 5, Trek (The Original Series, TNG, DS9), Anime series (ones with good production value and animation - as I am a huge classic Disney traditional animation fan) And as I am pretty sure by now no one is reading this - let's just keep specifics a surprise.

Radio: NPR 'and all that that implies'.

Music: Pretty much anything but Over-patriotic Right-Wing Country, Death Metal and Gangster Rap. Just met a cool band at a client's event. "Sean Flinn & the Royal We". I also dig the Shins, Beck, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, The Darkness and more. I have a special nerdy fondness for Orchestral Film Music (John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, etc.) and it is my passion at the moment. Also like a healthy dose of J-Pop to pass the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got to live in Taipei for a year and was able to meet a great number of amazing people. I am truly awed by the generosity and loveliness of that island nation.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a graphic designer, and I also love painting and photography. It is fun to look at and talk about different designs and learn new techniques. I am also a film score junkie and love listening to and talking about composers and such.
