About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Liberating vinyl records from un-played collections...

ABOUT ME
I work with Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council; a non-profit, representing folks affected by the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. I work specifically with monitoring current spill response equipment, and capabilities, contingency plans, spill prevention and response police issues, and dialoging heavily with industry and regulatory bodies. Essentially, the organization represents citizens' interest and adds a citizen voice to the ongoing spill prevention/response discussions. The organization is not a radical anti-oil type group, rather we just do not want to see a repeat of the 1989 spill, and advocate for the best prevention measures and response assets as it relates to the movement of oil in Prince William Sound and the tanker loading facility in Port Valdez.

Prior to my Alaska life.... BA in cultural anthropology from University of WI Madison, seven years managing the cheese and wine dept for Whole Foods Market in various locations, and a very enjoyable quarter life crisis that led me AK.

PHILOSOPHY
Take it easy, but always take it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Its nice to meet new folks and provide a place to stay when timing works for me/them. I tend to travel a lot with work, and have roommates, so please get in touch well in advance.

And full caveat... I'm a professional and don't want to host folks with loose entrance/exit plans. Meaning please don't email me the day you arrive needing a "place to crash for a few days".

My interest in hosting surfers is to cook food, hang out, and get to know you some. If I'm busy and can't accomplish those things, I won't be able to host you. I want this to be a fun experience for me as well, and not just a place for you to stay. Thanks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed and hosted a handful of times, and it's all been positive. Cool to meet other travelers in my hometown, or meet locals myself while on the road.

Interests

Cycling, bike-packing, skiing, video work, photography/graphic design, cooking, wine, gardening, vinyl records, kayaking, bead baking, cheese. I also DJ some mainly as a hobby.

Music, Movies, and Books

A little bit of everything, but mostly electronic these days. Electro/darker techno Dj's like Helena Hauf, Veronica Vasicka, Anetha, and artists like Four Tet, Kiasmos, Phon.O, Daniel Avery, Modeslektor, Bonobo, Amon Tobin, Kink, Trentemoller, Boards of Canada, Mum, Radiohead, RJD2, etc, etc, and the list goes on and on....350+GB of all sorts of stuff on my computer. Also dig me some Americana like Iron &Wine, Low, Calexico. And then there's my large vinyl collection which is more disco/funk and classic rock orientated.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Generally drawn to broad, open, and perhaps arguably desolate landscapes.
Skiing in the Chugach Mountain of Valdez, AK is a priority right now.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a good bike mechanic. Good with a camera. I'm a good cook.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Floor space or potentially a spare bedroom a shower, conversation, food. And a tour go my greenhouse if it's summer and growing season.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Slovenia

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
