About Me

Hey there!

My name's Jeremy, and I'm a 22 year old student originally from Australia, although I'll be moving to the United States for my PhD later this year. (Good timing with Donald, right?) But before I go, I'll be in Berlin for all of July and I'm really looking to meet some locals while I'm there!

I'm a pretty chatty person who likes meeting all kinds of people, music, languages, and experiencing new things and new places. (So far, I've been to 21 countries and lots more cities, from San Francisco to Ljubljana, Marrakech to Philadelphia, Sydney to Phnom Penh). I've been active on Couchsurfing for a while, and although I haven't been able to host before, I've met up with and taken lots of people around Melbourne. I also did the same briefly in Paris, when I studied there for a few months in 2016. I'm hoping to be able to host once I move to the States - I won't be too far from New York City.

I speak (and have taught) English and French, as well as OK German, and don't mind speaking any of them. My many accomplishments include being scammed in a marketplace in Fez, Morocco; getting lost in forests in Slovenia and Tasmania; throwing up in a bus from Bratislava to Vienna while nursing a hangover; getting flipped off my bike and landing in an accident in the French countryside.

(Also, my profile looks super serious, but I'm really just a talkative idiot who talks shit and laughs at silly things.)

Interests

Anything from have a good drink over wine, coffee, tea, beer, to travelling, running, and discovering anything new. My normal abodes are in literature, history, art, philosophy, social and policy problems, but I've met people on and through CS with whom I've learnt about many other things: piloting and aircraft control, the intricacies of European football and rugby teams, how to crack open a beer in odd ways, how to hitchhike across continents.

Music, Movies, and Books

For literature, anything like Lorca and Neruda; Ungaretti and Montale; Aragon, Camus, and Prévert; Kerouac, Ginsberg, Nabokov, Wharton, and so on. For music, it's all over the place, but lots of indie folk and acoustic as well as basic pop. TV/movies can go from Hitchcock to VEEP.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As always, there are just too many to reduce to one: watching the sun set upon an Angkor temple at dusk in Cambodia; hiking across the top of mountain trails, from Tasmania to New Zealand to Bohinj in Slovenia (and getting lost on a side track, but finding the most beautiful waterfall ever); finding myself alone in the middle of a forest in Versailles, late one evening in a bleak winter; walking along the coast of a storm-struck Quiberon in Bretagne (Brittany), the waves rolling endlessly off into the Atlantic; running a first half-marathon back in 2012 in Melbourne; sprinting after my Mitfahrgelegenheit bus on the highway of Grönigen in 2014 - the list could stretch on.

But I'm always hoping a bigger one will be around the corner.

What I Can Share with Hosts
