About Me

Older than dirt, I've been known to lie about my age. Told my massage student colleagues I was 127 years old and that was 15 years ago and counting. But I still have a sense of humor; still a kid at heart. And stories, I have tales.

Currently the large spare bedrooms is occupied. Life is a little crazy. Couch and yoga mats or massage table may be available, but options are limited until September.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfers tend to be exceptional people. Adventurous, trusting, responsible (I hope) and not entirely traditional. I hope by association, some of those attributes will rub off on me.

My Couchsurfing guests have me believing they are idealistic and daring enough to make the world a better place. I like that.

Music, Movies, and Books

My musical interest is pretty diverse, although I never developed any musical skills. I'm hard put to play a compact disc. My tenure as a live radio broadcaster was short-lived, but may be revived. I did have fun, and that's what life is about. As go books and movies and television, some time ago I got a crazy thought that I'd rather live life than watch life on a screen. I read news, psychology, some philosophy.

But there is this one book, Clifford Simak's "Way Station." If you pull the string on that, you'll understand more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved to Ireland without much of a plan. Thought the obstacles would stop me. I was wrong about that. Pretty sure if I had tried to plan it, I would not be here.

Teach, Learn, Share

Distilling bullshit to extract the purveyor's motivation is a skill we'd all benefit from improving.

If I bother revealing that I lived on a submarine, people's reaction almost invariably has been, "Isn't that claustrophobic?" But rarely do they ever wonder about loading groceries and other supplies for 135 people for 60 days, where to put the stuff, or what about waste disposal? There are stories.

Occasionally I teach basic juggling.

Imagination is a good thing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a good ear for listening and stories if you are interested. I'm curious and happy to learn.

A jack of all trades and master of none, I have broken rocks professionally, operated a nuclear reactor on submarines, sailed the Atlantic on a wooden ship, clowned, wildlife rehabilitation, live radio broadcasting, systems engineering, operations. I learned to work and enjoy helping with whatever.

"Why are we here?" is a favorite question.
Do we dare ask, "Why are the forbidden fruits forbidden?" is another.
