About Me

Currently traveling Europe: www.mrjjwilson.com

I love travelling and believe everyone who can travel should do it!

I'm a software developer, focused on Android mobile app development and freelancing at the moment.

Born and raised in London, lived in Uganda for a short time when I was a child.

The more I travel, the more I want to see the rest of the world and I enjoy speaking with other travellers, finding out something interesting not widely known about another part of the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love experiencing the culture when I travel to a new place and believe that couchsurfing is a great way to do this by meeting locals. I pick up the basics of new languages quite quickly and like to greet people with their native language.

Once I have settled somewhere, I look forward to hosting people on their travels and learning something new from my guests.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have stayed with many hosts and met many travellers on my journey so far. It has been amazing, the best travel decision I have made was to create a Couchsurfing profile!
I have kept a blog about my experience, current link is here: www.mrjjwilson.com

Interests

- Travelling!
- Exercise (mainly Calisthenics)
- Reading
- Partying
- Programming
- Mentoring
- Public speaking
- Carnivals around the world
- and more that i've forgotten to list

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC

I mainly listen to UK Grime/HipHop/RnB/Soca/House/Mainstream club music, but I can listen to most genres outside of that for a short while.
Classical music is great for moments of deep concentration.

PODCASTS

I started listening to Podcasts in 2014 and they have been amazing! I highly recommend listening to podcasts, so easy to learn something new about a topic you like while commuting, cooking, etc.

I use the PocketCasts app on Android.

Current podcasts:

Tim Ferriss, Eric Thomas, Fragmented (Android Developers), Android Developers Backstage.
I listened to the first season of the Serial Podcast, that was amazing, I still go back and forth about who actually did it!

I recommend you pick only a small handful, I made the mistake of subscribing to 10+ podcasts and then when I missed a week because of a holiday, I was overwhelmed with the amount of episodes I had to catch up on. It then felt like a chore, so I trimmed down to the best ones, much more manageable that way.

MOVIES

I mainly like action and horror movies but i do like other genres.

A short list of favourites that come to mind at the time of writing:
Training Day, Flight, American Gangster, DejaVu, Inception, Social Network, The last House on the Left, Hostel 1-3, Batman:The Dark Knight & DK Rises,
The Rock! (Nicholas Cage), A Beautiful Mind, The Pursuit of Happiness

BOOKS

The majority of my books are non-fiction but the fiction books I have recently read have been amazing.

Short list of favourite books so far:

- Built to sell (by John Warillow)
- The Alchemist (by Paulo Coelho)
- How to Win Friends and Influence People (by Dale Carnegie)
- Rich Dad, Poor Dad (by Robert Kiyosaki)
- The Richest Man in Babylon (by George S. Clason)
- The Martian (by Andy Weir)
- High Society (by Ben Elton)
- Twelve Pillars (Jim Rohn)

I am always open to new book suggestions, so drop me a message if you have any!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- 4 month Couchsurfing travel around Europe (March - July 2016)
- 100mile night time bike ride for St Crispins Day (2014)
- Zip-lining in Oslo backwards (2015), it's a must wherever you do it! Try it!
- Canoe boat in Entebbe at the source of the River Nile and the fish after! (2013)
