About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to make new friends, and to rock. I'd like to learn as much as I can and enjoy life as much as I can. I'd like to reduce stress while increasing happiness. (That sounds like it's straight out of a self-help book.)

I'm a musician (mostly a percussionist though I've been playing a little guitar for years, and lately I've been getting heavy into old-time banjo) and a deep thinker who enjoys philosophical conversations, but also enjoys just being completely goofy and ridiculous.

My philosophy... I believe that humans are intrinsically good, generally--there definitely are exceptions. I believe that no single religion is 100% right, but they all have the right idea. I am NOT a fan of active evangelism. I love free thought. I think idealistically. I am open to trying certain new and non-harmful things. And so on and so forth. Perhaps we can talk about it all in the vicinity of a couch.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people and, ideally, to have interesting multi/intercultural experiences, if not just to have cool, fun exchanges, laughs, and conversations of all sorts. Para hablar un poco de español. Maybe even to go do some cool activities together. To make new friends from around the world (including the nation).

I have to be honest, though, too - I'm NOT on here to offer free rent for a few weeks. Not that I don't have any sympathy or empathy for anyone who's going through a hard time, a transition, whatever - I've been through those and they can be tough, for sure. It's just that we have a pretty small house already, and really that's just not what we're here offering. If you need help with resources for long-term housing, recommendations on neighborhoods, or whatever, please, go ahead and message me! I'm happy to help with that sort of thing all day long. But as far as staying with us, apologies, but that's just not what we're on the site for. Thanks for understanding :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music (most listened-to bands in 2018 according to Spotify): Vulfpeck, Lettuce, EMEFE, STRFKR, School of Seven Bells, Ghost Note, M83, Weezer (nostalgia city), Louis Cole, The Flaming Lips (not all of it), Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, !!!, Roberta Flack, Khruangbin, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Fearless Flyers, The Octopus Project, Brian Eno, Miike Snow, Michael Jackson...

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, Amelie, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Batteries Not Included, Navigator, The Last Starfighter (haha, not sure if srs)...but there are so many [good] movies.

Books: Siddartha, On the Road, Wool (also the trilogy), Annihilation (also that trilogy), Taming Your Gremlin (yes, seriously)...and probably some others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Made music. I think it's amazing that we can make music.

I don't know...amazing is relative, I suppose? I was just in Norway and got the chance to go up this SUPER cool and exciting lift to the top of a mountain. It was kind of expensive but TOTALLY worth it in my opinion.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a musician with a very good ear (though less classical/reading chops). I would love to share my percussion, guitar, or banjo techniques with anyone - if you are a pro or at least pretty good at any instruments, most of us here would love to learn any techniques or wisdom about any of that.

I am also fluent in Spanish and would love to have a language exchange.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter, conversation, a wide variety of board games (including a dining-room-sized Chickapig board), a place to comfortably watch movies and listen to great music, a fenced-in back yard for grillin and chillin - actually also a grill, I guess, with permission from the downstairs folks.
