About Me

Hi!

My name is Jeryl and I'm a student from Singapore who is currently on exchange in Montreal. I've lived in Singapore for >99% of my life and this is the first time I'm away from home for an extended period on my own.

Having been in Montreal for a couple months now I must say I'm loving it (despite the bitter cold which I'm totally not used to; Singapore is a sunny island with summer all year round) because there's so much to see and so much to learn about.

After my semester, I intend to explore the US and its beautiful cities and cultures because I've watched, heard and read so much about it since young but I've never seen it for myself. Now that I'm just a step (north) away, there's no way I'm giving up this opportunity. :)

Although Singapore is but a little dot on the world map, I'm proud to be a Singaporean and I love to share about my country.

I have three principles which I live my life by:
1) Punctuality
2) Keeping to my word
3) Do unto others what I'd like others to do unto me (and vice versa)

I dislike heavy drinking/smoking/partying/loud noise.

So, if any part of my profile strikes a chord with you, then I'd love to meet you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Going on a city-hopping spree, it's hard to get to know the local culture within the short span of a few days and by couchsurfing I can get to hear much more about the place from the locals than just walking around which I feel is really all the point of travelling. I mean, if I just wanna see tall buildings, old statues and long bridges I could either 1) google images 2) stay at a hostel.

This is actually my first time CS (I've neither surfed nor hosted before) so I don't have any references and all I have is my earnest writing.

Interests

I'm very passionate about two sports - frisbee and table tennis. If I can meet someone who shares these two passions as well I"ll be thrilled. I love music as well - I play the guitar, I listen to pop music and I like to sing :) I like to call myself a bathroom superstar ;)

I love to see nature at its best - waterfalls, mountains, sunrise/sunsets, caves etc. Sadly I get none of this in Singapore which is why I plan to visit many grand works of mother nature.

Besides these I also love food (Singapore is a food haven), animals, meeting new people and learning new things and basically anything that enriches my life and expands my knowledge :)

I used to practise Taekwondo when I was younger :D
