About Me

My companion and I live in a van-turned handcrafted mobile studio. We're cruising at 55mph into the hearts and minds of anyone that will give us the time of day, a helping hand, a mission to accomplish, an adventure to undertake, or a wink and a giggle.
I'm a quarter-centenarian that has had enough of waiting tables while watching the word crumble around me. While one part of me rages against the dying of the light, another must revel in the exquisite pleasure of life.
I seek a deeper understanding of the world and people around me; an imperiled, collapsing world that modern humanity has never known, and a generation of people that, unless united in radical socioeconomic change, will surely be one of the last.
I'm a pretty normal guy IRL. I enjoy hiking, beer, durable handcrafted goods, sunsets, yada yada yada. I'd say I'm a cozy yet paradoxical mixture of radical thinker, realist, optimist, humanist, and environmentalist. People comment on my vocabulary.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My bff and I built a rad van in Portland last winter, quit our jobs, wrote a manifesto, and embarked on what we have decided to call an "Anthropological Survey" of sorts. The idea is tied to the ideal of gift economics. The gist is, we want to make awesome stuff. Art, food, structures, music, friends, you name it (and maybe we do occasionally), but either way, ideally, the thing is made in the spirit of a better world to life in and stronger community to belong to, rather than in the spirit of profit.
We've left the van behind and are on foot in India through winter; looking for creative types who want to share in the experience of global communion! Even if you aren't working on a project, we want to kick it and swap stories. Let's hang out!

Interests

I'm fascinated by the cultures of the world. I love hearing about people's lives growing up and their plans for the future. I have a political mind and I'm always an advocate for the underdogs of the world. I love food and the experience of dinner at the table. I also love to work with my hands and see a physical structure come into being.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music and film, I'm always eager to share and always looking for recommendations, please send some if you have any!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen almost every corner of North America, and I've done all my travelling on a shoe-string budget, only having to work a few months every year. It just feels like regular life to me, but people tell me they're amazed at the simplicity of it!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm all about earning my keep. And I believe that what goes around comes around. Need some one to do those dishes? No problem. Can I run an errand for ya? My pleasure. Mind if I help cook dinner? I love to participate around the house, even if it's just a chat over morning coffee.
