About Me

Music. Art. Nature. Activism. Fun.

I spend my summers in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of the US, coordinating music & art experiences, creating things (music, sound collage, calligraphy, culture jamming, political rallies...), and pay the bills with my window cleaning business.
Whichever way, I try to help people see the world more clearly.
I really enjoy meeting new people and bringing people together, but also like to hunker down into a solo, creative mode.
During our winter, I travel. It's a time for recharging and stocking up on sounds, images, and stories. If you're hosting me, you'll probably find me with my field recorder setup, trying to capture the sound of silence in your neck of the woods.

I tend to stay active, like to leave a place at least as clean as I found it, and work to stay respectful of the people and places around me.

Aware I don't have many references on here (after years of cheap hostels in inexpensive countries) - but happy to send personal references or I'm fb.com/jesiah . Used to use Global Freeloaders 15 years ago!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm in a place where I can finally offer space in my home. I love meeting all varieties of people and sharing in similarities and differences.

I travel internationally almost every year and the experiences had with others are always the memories that stand out the most.

I'm here to meet different people than usual, and learn something unknown. To find a better cup of coffee/tea/soup, a local band, or whatever's good in your town.

Music, Movies, and Books

We learn and grow through the lens of the stories we tell together.

Music - I love it all! Once I thought I didn't like pop-country, but then I went to Nicaragua and, you know, everything has its ridiculously perfect context. On my own I listen to a lot of ambient / downtempo or can be found getting the dancefloor started.

Movies - Movies are great. They and the long-form-serial are perhaps the most important art form of our time. I enjoy present-documentaries like Planet Earth, post-documentaries like Ken Burn's The Vietnam War, and pre-documentaries like Black Mirror.

Books -Walt Whitman. Brian Greene. Ursula K Le Guin. Michael Cunningham. Mark Z. Danielewski. I like to read things inspired by wherever I'm going next, like Twain in Nicaragua, Orwell's Burmese Days, or Neruda in Chile. Flatland.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There's a place like Machu Picchu except with only 5 visitors a day. Still the hardest hike of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I travel with a small recording "studio" and am happy to share my knowledge and abilities.
Have been to many corners of the Earth with bountiful stories and tips and tricks on how to make it work easiest or be most rewarding for you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A place to stay in Portland, and likely Seattle, SF/ Oakland, and Los Angeles.
Abundant music. Recording/engineering of your sounds.
Nostalgic stories of the past and future.
Patented, world-famous breakfast! Or dinner.
A clean(er) home.
