Overview
About Me
I studied geology in university, built a tiny house on wheels, taught English in Japan, ran for City Council in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and now am working to help the Territory of Nunavut to switch over from diesel to renewable energy. It's been a winding road through my life so far, with lots of bumps and beautiful vistas. But one constant is my love for travel and culture.
I love reading and have taken a special interest in neuroscience as of late. I am introspective and curious, adventurous and easy going. Deep conversation makes me happy, as does swimming in the ocean.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to travel, and I have realized that the part that brings me the most joy is meeting local people and understanding their culture and lifestyle. Typically, I like to pair hitchhiking and tenting so that I can meet cool people and save money for trying local foods and experiences. At home, we like to pick up hitchhikers to repay our good karma.
I realized that I should expand my opportunities for awesome connections by Couchsurfing. During the hot summer months and the dead of winter, camping becomes less than comfortable. I'm looking forward to welcoming couchsurfers once I have finished restoring my house!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love new wave 80s music, swing, funk, disco, motown, classical strings and orchestral music, and David Bowie.
Some of my favourite movies off the top of my head include Chariots of Fire, Billy Elliot, Patch Adams, The Dead Poets Society, A Room with a View, Lost in Translation, The Big Short, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, It's Kind of a Funny Story...
Some of my favourite books are Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell, Urchin by Kate Storey, The Call of the Wild by Jack London, How Emotions Are Made by Lisa Feldman Barrett.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I trekked into the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India, on camel back to camp on the sand and under the stars with a group of local musicians who played folk music and shared supper with us that was cooked over our open fire.
Teach, Learn, Share
If there are any hobbies you have that you'd like to share with me or teach me, I would be ecstatic to get involved! If you're interested in any of mind, I can tell you all about how to do it and have fun!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my cooking skills and food, and probably some local beer that I scout out. I can also share my photographs and stories from travelling. Any help you need with cleaning or fixing things at your place, I am more than happy to lend a hand!
