Über mich

I'm 18, and until recently I was one of those 18 year olds who believes they more or less know what's what. It wasn't until I moved here (Rome) that I realised that there is a whole world of things I don't know, about myself, about other people and about life. I've got a whole lot of learning to do!
I'm a very honest and direct person. I love learning about anything I can, but especially Economics, which I'll be studying at uni next February and Physics, which I find fascinating. I love podcasts, watching films and making vlogs to share with my family and friends around the world. I'm constantly listening to music and dancing, although from an outside perspective I'm just a person swaying and shimmying (badly) at the bus stop to music no-one else can hear. I love meeting new people and I pride myself on being a good listener and a caring friend. I firmly believe that the only way to get over my innate shyness is just to meet and talk to as many people people as I can!

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I think that if you visit somewhere without meeting someone who lives there, you're missing out on a fascinating and rewarding experience. You see your surroundings from the perspective of a visitor, not from the perspective of a local. I'm hoping to meet and get to know people to understand more about the culture of the places I'm lucky enough to visit. Travelling alone is awesome but it can be, well, lonely. I find that sometimes I find more joy in experiences when I can share them with someone else, when we can be excited together.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

My guilty pleasure is watching bad movies. In fact, for someone who claims to love film, I watch a whole lotta bad movies. Anyways, there are different types of favourite movies. The Day After Tomorrow is our favourite rainy day movie, I watch it with my mum when it's stormy out. My favourite romantic comedy is When Harry Met Sally. And my favourite film, the one I watch when I want to see something beautiful, frustrating and moving is In The Mood for Love. As for music, I like everything from jazz to pop to classical music to rap. If it has a nice melody, I'm probably into it. I'm not so jazzed about country music and heavy metal, but I'm open to being introduced to your favourite songs to see if you can win me over! I play the guitar and the violin but I uh, I don't exactly uh, practice as much as I should.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I came to live in Europe for 5 months after finishing high school. I don't think I even realised how challenging and educational my experience was going to be before coming, but the past few months I have definitely cried a lot, learned a lot and grown a lot. Looking back I realise that it's amazing how far I've come, and it's all thanks to having pushed myself out of my comfort zone and into a whole host of new situations that challenge and inspire me every day.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I like to think that I'm an excellent cook, but I know that excellence only extends to foods I'm familiar with. I'd love to learn how to cook your favourite dishes, or cook you some of mine. I can cook arepas or empanadas from Venezuela (which are gluten free!), Canadian poutine, rustle up a fantastic homemade burger on the barbie, or introduce you to the wonder that is haggis (just don't think about what it's made of. Focus on how good it tastes!)

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

The question "Where are you from?" isn't one I can quickly answer. I'm only 18 but I was born in Venezuela, grew up in Scotland, lived in Australia for 3 years and Canada for 2. I'll share my story if you share yours! Apart from that - I can share a keen interest to absorb knowledge and culture, to have a better understand of what life is like all over the world, to meet people and learn and listen.
