About Me

Hello People of Western Australia! My name is Jesse Surry and I am just about 6 months into my Round the World Trip where I have visited a ton of countries across Asia and am now looking to to start a new adventure in WA.

Before I left to start my trip in Japan last February I was working for Zoom Communications and living in San Diego California. I worked for Zoom for 3 years and then had the realization that the corporate life really was not for me and I needed to get out, meet new people and see the world.

I love outdoor sports and keeping active. During my travels I have been fortunate enough to do some pretty cool things like deep water soloing in Vietnam, snowboarding powder in Japan, scuba diving in Komodo Island national park, trekking the Manaslu circuit in Nepal, training Muay Thai in Thailand, and surfing an epic right hander on a tiny little island off the coast of Sumatra.

When I am not working, traveling, or trying my hand at a new activity, I am probably eating. I love cooking up new recipes and finding the most interesting restaurants in every new town.

After cooking or sitting down for a tasty meal in town I usually spend some time reading on my Kindle. Right now, I am trying to re-read some of my favorite books in English in Spanish, which has been a very interesting experience.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couch surfing because I want to meet the people of Perth and WA. I am interested in meeting and staying with real Aussies based in WA. Also, after almost 6 months of traveling I think it would be amazing to stay at a house/apartment instead of another hostel or hotel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One Amazing Day: Waking up early on Christmas Eve in Switzerland and taking a train through the Swiss Alps to the small village of Zermatt and then snowboarding fresh snow from the night before with the Matterhorn looming above us the entire time we rode. Then going back to the family of which we were staying with and celebrating Christamas in the Swiss tradition, with fondue, lit sparklers on the Christmas tree, and young kids eager to find out what gifts the Angel had brought them.
