I am Jesse, destroyer of sandwiches. I am an easygoing guy who enjoys conversations about everything. I am also very good at missing social cues. Although I might seem shy initially, I am actually very friendly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is, I think, the single best rejoinder to tourism that I can think of. Instead of this whole thing where your only interaction with a new place or culture is to purchase the experience, couchsurfing lets you actually get to know people from around the world intimately. That's both incredible and incredibly simple. I can't think of a better way to see the world than sharing space, a meal, an afternoon or a conversation with the people who live there.

Interests

I spend my time studying languages, playing instruments, fixing and riding bikes, drawing, walking, exploring, cooking and making things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't watch many movies, but I like novels, particularly authors like Michael Ondaatje, Michael Chabon, Will Ferguson or Bill Watterson. I like most music, starting with modern acoustic music but including hip hop, folk, country, ska, rock, electronica and jazz.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My favorite moments tend to be things like a conversation with a man attaching fireworks to his son's tricycle in Montréal, or speaking of fireworks, New Year's Eve in La Paz. There's also the time I got a concussion from a falling 2x4. It really made an impression on me. Oh,I crack myself up.
