About Me

I'm a Canadian expat living in London for the last two years. Now that I've finally accepted the Couchsurfing paywall, I'm ready to take advantage of my globally-central location and start visiting new places again.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've surfed a lot, but I've never hosted. I live in a large-ish house in North London, so I'm open to hosting for short periods if we meet up first and things seem right. I owe a lot to CS for helping me travel abroad when I was a broke student!

I think lately I've gotten further away from travelling conscientiously, meeting local people, and learning new things since AirBnB blew up. You never know what fascinating people you might not be meeting when you travel 100% in private rooms.

Interests

The feeling of being picked up off the side of the road hitchhiking is way up there, along with cooking, glazing over maps, drinking a nice big hefeweizen (or sour), playing guitar too loudly, collecting Lonely Planet guidebooks, houseplants, and tricking people into watching documentaries with me...

Music, Movies, and Books

Sloppy, melodic punk rock

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending nearly a month on an Icebreaker travelling through the Canadian Arctic; being airlifted on to a 4 square km iceberg.

The border crossing between Serbia and Kosovo.

Walking for nine hours between villages in Nepal by my own volition.

Travelling between Tyumen, Western Siberia and Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia over three days on the Trans-Siberian mainline. That was in 3rd class open compartments. There was smoked fish hanging in a plastic bag from a coat rack for the entire three days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm desperate to get somewhere with German and/or French. Best not to talk about work, but I'm always trying to work on my Python for Data Science skills.

I can show you how to play drums? Guitar (really badly)?

Countries I’ve Visited
