About Me

CURRENT MISSION

¡Hola! I'm currently on a bike tour with my friend Grady riding from Portland, Oregon through Latin America with no set route or destination. It would be great to meet as many people along the way as possible, we look forward to meeting you! Be sure to check out our blog at pdxpanam.tumblr.com

ABOUT ME

Adventure is always my first priority, and what's more exciting than adventuring while getting to know cool new people?I have traveled through Eastern Europe the hobo way, backpacked the John Muir Trail (200+ mile section of the Pacific Crest Trail through the Sierras in California), cycled across the United States from coast to coast, and I have even snowboarded for 24 hours straight during a competition to see who can ski the most vertical feet in 24 hours (which I won!).

PHILOSOPHY

Don't dwell on the past but instead realize that now is the time to make things happen. Don't make excuses and take risks. The day I am scared of change is the day I'm moving to Antarctica.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have CouchSurfed in Europe and across the US, and have returned hosting when I was able to. I would love to host fellow travelers whenever possible!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My very first CS experience was in Slovakia and it was fantastic - once we found his house! We didn't have access to a computer and we arrived in his town with nothing but a general idea of where he lived. We ended up knocking on doors until finally we knocked on his. It was the beginning of a great relationship that continues to this day. He has now visited my home and surfed on my couch and we have climbed mountains together! This is the kind of experience that I would love to have through this site.

Interests

I love being in the outdoors, and I love finding myself in foreign places. My interests include photography, cycling, snowboarding, backpacking, music, film, and of course travelling! I am a bicycle enthusiast, enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee, disc golf, snowshoeing, any type of board sport, rock climbing, and most other outdoor activities.

Music, Movies, and Books

I consider myself a movie/film connoisseur, that said I enjoy just about anything! I particularly enjoy the work of Terry Gilliam, Ron Fricke, Danny Boyle, Miyazaki, Kurosawa, Werner Herzog, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Kubrick, etc. Some of my very favorites are Baraka, Brazil, The Fall, Pulp Fiction, Pi, 28 Days Later, Yojimbo, etc.

I also love music and am very open to being introduced to new music. My musical interests range from avant-garde jazz to classical Greek folk to psychedelic electronic funk to downtempo and trip-hop and everywhere in between! I especially enjoy music from the far reaches of the world, so I'd love to hear what people listen to where you're from!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode my bicycle across the country, and it was a constant two months of amazing adventures. Being in a different spot every day for 64 days really gives you a unique perspective on the country and its people. Half of this trip I was completely by myself, camping in spots I probably shouldn't have been camping and sometimes having to go nights without food or water.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to grow a beard, ride a unicycle, understand complex physical and chemical processes, sleep on a mountain in the snow, open a bottle of beer and can of food in the woods without a bottle or can opener, and much, much more. I cannot teach you to enjoy life, but I can try! I'd love to learn all about wherever you call home. Also, I've always wanted to learn to enjoy life a little bit more.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
