ABOUT ME

I'm a compassionate, open-minded, laid back, genuine old soul with interests ranging from data to rock climbing. I've been described as a "yuppie during the week and a hippie on the weekends", and I think this is fairly accurate. I have a quite conventional office job as a statistician and have a rational perspective on the world, but also enjoy activities like ecstatic dance, yoga, music festivals, and am open to unconventional approaches to healing and spirituality as well. As a thinker and lifelong learner, I make an effort to take everyone's perspectives seriously and entertain new ideas, which is a major reason I enjoy travel and meeting people of different cultures. I also try to listen to podcasts on a range of topics from science to politics to keep up on the latest developments in various academic fields.

Despite being mostly left-brained, I have a great appreciation for the arts - particularly music. I seem to be one of the few people who still listens to specific artists and albums rather than pre-created playlists. I also have a talent for remembering lyrics and have a tendency to interrupt conversations by singing when I am reminded of a song or when a great song comes on over the speakers in a public place. With some encouragement, I will also participate in karaoke from time to time. I have also been known to dance like no one's watching even when everyone clearly is, and friends know me as the person who jumps in and out of characters from time to time - some of my go-to's are Old Gregg and Bon Qui Qui - or puts on silly accents and impressions. If I didn't have stage fright, I might try my hand at acting or some type of performance.

Most of all, I want to connect with interesting people whether we are "cut from the same cloth" and have all the same interests or come from completely different backgrounds and have a lot to learn from each other. I want to be a part of a community that believes in sharing, hospitality, openness, and of course, has great travel stories. I am a relatively inexperienced traveler and would love to learn more about inexpensive ways to travel around the world, travel tips, and get destination recommendations.

Interesting conversation on a variety of topics - current events, music, TV, politics (if we dare), travel stories, etc. I am a decent cook - although I don't typically follow recipes, I am happy to throw together a tabouleh or curry to share with a host. I also have several years of experience as a math and ACT/SAT tutor if you happen to be going back to school. If you are a writer, I am also happy to provide feedback on any piece, drawing from my experience as an editor.
