About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Destiny is a rendezvous" -Franklin D. Roosevelt (1936)

ABOUT ME

I love DC (I've lived here almost 14 years now) and try to demonstrate this love via my vocation and volunteerism. I'm a feminist. I like maps and collect postcards. I'm an advocate for non-human animals. I enjoy math a lot. I have a cool Siamese cat named Kim.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

During the school-year, I host because I have to stay local and work. During the summer and other teacher holidays, I surf. I can help walk dogs, cook food, bike, read stories aloud, hang out on the beach with you, leave a place as clean as I've found it, share experiences and anecdotes, and be a general adventure partner.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Started CSing in Montreal while doing a bicycle tour with a pal. After, I hitch-hiked the ring road in Iceland, with the help of CS. Other CS spots have included Haiti, Nuuk (Greenland), and Alaska.

Interests

I like to check out art and museums, dance, read, walk and run around, dance, chop vegetables, bake vegan bread, set fireworks off of roofs, do karaoke, drink coffee, drink wine, experience FJORDS, wear gaudy second hand pins and earrings, ride bikes, ride horses, climb over fences, etc

Music, Movies, and Books

I live under a pile of cassette tapes and cds. I enjoy the likes of David Bowie, Frank Ocean, Thelonious Monk, Goldfrapp, Guided By Voices, Edith Piaf, The Dream, Converge, Dinosaur Jr etc etc etc.

I love Graham Greene, Tolstoy, 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', and pursuing the catalogue of Erika Lopez.

Some favorite movies, recently, include A Somewhat Gentle Man (En ganske snill mann) directed by Hans Petter Moland and most anything with Queen Latifah in it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moose in Alaska. Quebec's country roads. Danish squats. Western Australian dance-clubs. Greenlandic glaciers.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach decoding and reading comprehension and introductory math. I make up rhyming poems and songs often. I have read a lot of feminist fiction from the 70s to today. I can change a bike tire with relative ease. I scrapbook and sew clothing decently.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, ideas, discourse, respect, consideration, laughs, fun, etc

As for myself, as a host: I don't have the capacity for couples, no one under 22, and preference goes to non-Americans and people in DC doing something interesting and specific
