About Me

My name's Jess, I'm 27 years old, and from NZ. To tell you a bit about myself, I started traveling around 3 years ago - I've traveled all over Japan, worked at an International school in Tokyo as an English teacher, and spent some time with my husband's family in the States. I love yoga, reading, studying (especially languages), and pretty much anything outdoors (hiking, in particular). I'll try pretty much anything once and love throwing myself into adventures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've met some wonderful, crazy, warm hearted people while traveling. I want to meet more and Couchsurfing seems like a good place to do it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I especially love dark fantasy and sci-fi but I'll read, watch, or play just about anything with a good story. I'm rereading The Kingkiller Chronicles for the thousandth time, I love The Dark Tower by Stephen King and anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. Some of my favorite movies are Predestination and Arrival, my favorite anime include One Piece, Stein's gate, and Kill la Kill, and a few of my favorite games are The Last of Us (which had me freaking out and resisting the urge to throw the controller across the room whenever something ran at me), BioShock, and Final Fantasy 13-2.

As for my favorite music, it's a bizarre collection of everything from Janelle Monae to Highly Suspect to a little Liszt.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm tempted to regale you with travel tales but really my favorite thing I've done was spontaneously marrying my husband on a back porch in Texas with his mum as the internet-ordained minister.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not really sure what to write here but I can teach you some Japanese and yoga, I want to learn whatever's on offer (I love learning new languages and collecting odd skills), and (there's no way to word this part without sounding cheesy) share stories, escapades, and good conversations.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories and tips from my travels so far (I've spent a lot of time in Japan), help with Japanese or English practice, and I'm happy to help out with cooking and anything around the house.
