Overview
About Me
Currently on my third tour of the US. I couchsurfed for all of 2016 and the first half of 2017. My first tour was with my best friends after high school graduation in 2001. I would have never guessed how that first experience of wanderlust would inspire my travels for the rest of my life.
COVID-19 update: fully vaccinated
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I lived in Mexico for 8 years. Thought I was going to settle down there; I absolutely loved it! But as my dad always says, "Life is what happens when you're out making other plans." Indeed, life happened. So I came back in the US and had no idea where I wanted to put down roots so I set out couchsurfing. I couchsurfed for a year-and-a-half. Throughout 2016 and half of 2017. Now, after yearsof quarantine, I'm taking care of that travel itch. (Fully vaccinated)
Interests
I'm detoxing from several years of crisis work, particularly during 2020, the greatest collective crisis of my lifetime. My current go-to is drawing and hand lettering.
I really want to swim with sharks and hug a humpback whale one day!
I've been working up.tonit by swimming with and hugging nurse sharks in Isla Mujeres
And swimming with out local Florida manatees.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I have an eclectic taste in music. It really depends on my mood. Winding down in my room, I will probably find a soft indie/folk rock station. If I'm getting ready to go out, I'm on top 40. Love me some Rihanna, Beyonce and anything that will make you dance. If I'm feeling down, then I'll probably put on some yoga/meditation music or something inspirational.
Books: I miss my book club ladies in Mexico that motivated me to read new genres but I like my books the way I like my music. I always have a suspenseful action/ science fiction book for when I'm on the elliptical at the gym; they keep my pace up. And then some realistic or historical fiction for just hanging around or waiting somewhere. When I'm winding down, I'll probably pick up a self-help book and get inspired.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one?...
-Lived la vida loca in México for a decade
-I had my first glass of wine on my 13th birthday on a hillside at sunset somewhere in France.
-I took a 3-week road trip throughout the entire US with my 3 best friends after our high school graduation. (Too many amazing stories about that trip.)
-I've surfed in Hawaii and Costa Rica (I'm not very good, though).
-I volunteered in a small school in Panama 2007.
-I've swum in underground caves (cenotes) that are cooler than anything you've ever seen in The Goonies.
-I've climbed to the top of Chichén-Itzá.
-I watched the Obama administration inaugurate Stonewall Inn as a national monument and the park across from it a National Park. (June 2016)
- I couchsurfed for a year-and-a-half and discovered as much as we are different we are all uniquely connected.
-Many more to come...
