About Me

at the risk of stating the obvious, looking for friends in unfamiliar places and nothing more :)

Hello! I’m a writer/student journalist studying computer science at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where I am for 3/4ths of the year, though born and raised in Los Angeles.

I'm inspired by the new places I visit and the people I meet, which I feel informs my work as a student, writer, software developer, artist, and more. In my just over 2 years as a semi-independent adult in college, I've traveled more than I have in the 17 years prior growing up, and am hungry for more opportunities to travel and embed myself in communities, even if for a little bit.

I'm really passionate about sharing stories and ideas and random factoids with people --- I thrive off of fulfilling conversations.

I just joined couchsurfing, so I have yet to get any testimonials, but I can provide Facebook/Twitter for additional verification!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To travel in a more authentic way and get to know the people who live in the places I'm visiting :)

Interests

-my fondest childhood memories are of libraries and grocery stores, both of which I love wandering around to this day-- it's easy for me to get lost in a stack of books and peruse the nonfiction section. I'm equally as interested in culture-specific grocery stores, learning about dishes, snacks, produce and more that make up a culture's cuisine
-photography, cell phone and DSLR alike: I'm interested in film/disposable cameras, it's always been less about the device and more about the person behind the camera, whether for editorials, photo essays, artsy or journalistic shoots alike
-writing, journaling; I wrote for the newspaper at school and am branching out into freelance writing. As a hobbyist, I enjoy journalling and scrapbooking
-this one's a little more self-indulgent, but thinking a lot about existentialism, and what personally fulfills me. I've settled on not entirely knowing, but enjoying the continuous process of figuring it out via self reflection and connecting with others.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading: Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions
The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan is an absolute favorite.

Listening to Orange Rex County, Yuna, Brockhampton, Oh Wonder, and more! I'd love to swap music and playlists.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Won a national college journalism award, interviewed Snoop Dog once.

Teach, Learn, Share

-SAT tutor (hahaha), can teach coding, computer science, high level AI/ML (in the midst of learning myself!)
-happy to share music/book recommendations (I'll make you a playlist!)
-groceries, snacks (specifically, the peculiarly shaped fruit I'm fascinated with wandering around the supermarket on any given day)
-can sniff out random lowkey concerts, poetry readings, more, would love for you to come with!

~conversations, topics I'm fascinated with~
-love talking about the duality of being a first gen American and a child of immigrants (and how much I love my parents cooking) -- would love to pitch in with cooking or generally be helpful however I can!
-AI and automation, socially responsible implementations?
-stories about campus politics at a rural land grant university in a fairly conservative area during the 2016 election

What I Can Share with Hosts

-not sure where I'll land post-grad, but it would likely be in a more urban area, where you'd be more than welcome to come visit!
-if you ever find yourself in the Palouse/eastern Washington area in the meantime, I'd be happy to host you and give you recommendations for the area!
-not based in LA anymore, but can give you a gazillion different things to visit/see/do!
-random article/book recommendations
