Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I opened up an account years ago, and then didn't end up traveling until the past couple of years, where I was fortunate enough to find amazing hosts through friends, couchsurfing, and any number of synchronistic connections. I haven't hosted yet, except personally.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Has been wonderful. I surfed in Oregon and California. If you count my couchsurfing elsewhere but not through this site, it's been a lot, and I am so grateful for this little organization. People truly are amazing and wonderful.
Interests
I love being outside. I spend my time writing and reading (I'm an editor) and researching. I love making spaces cozy and comfortable. I love people--we are fascinating. I'm interested in the evolution of our species--emotionally, socially, and environmentally. I see connections between the world at large and dynamics between nations, and the micro world of just you and me. I think things are connected, big time. And I'm extremely interested in identifying cultural ideas and worldviews that have been handed down to us, and being creative in shifting those perspectives. It's hard work.

Music, Movies, and Books
Those are all things that I enjoy thoroughly. I have both very good and very bad taste in all of them.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think that every little walk, whether in my backyard, national forest, or mountaintop, is amazing. This is parallel to the fact that a lot of the time, very small, seemingly insignificant exchanges, events, or moments, are profoundly important to me. In the past two years, I was a mom to two amazing kids, my boyfriend's kids. I kind of think being with them half the week for all that time was pretty amazing, for me. Watching them grow and supporting that growth. Leaving them, when that relationship ended, and going to the mountains and then the ocean and then the woods in the last few months on the fuel of friends and hard work is also amazing to me. Gosh this is a weird question to answer.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've lived in the city, I've lived in the country, and I've lived in the woods. I've lived alone, and I've lived communally, and I've lived with partners. I love the art of relationship--not just between people, but between everything--people and food, people and trees, trees and sky, etc. etc. I'm fascinated with communication styles, with cultivating more maturity in a world that seems very adolescent, globally. If you're interested in wilderness skills, I lived at an outdoor wilderness school for many years, and learned a bit about a lot of things--eating roadkill, tanning hides, fire making. I also grew up in NJ and have lived in New York and Philadelphia. And Hawaii. And California. And Colorado.
I've edited and helped to assemble, write, and publish three books, and another is on the way. If you've got ideas, I want to hear them.
