About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm a perpetual student. I'm looking to learn as much as I can about the world, the people who inhabit it and myself.

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Jessica and I never really know what to write in these things. So to simplify I'm just going to list things that I love... to smile, food (especially new or exotic), animals, friendly people, the outdoors, self-expression, books, weather, colors, self-reflection, introspection, psychology, anthropology, gastronomy, being comfortable, testing oneself, hiking, climbing, getting in touch with my inner monkey, getting in touch with my inner child, sewing, knitting, bubble baths, hot showers, swimming (in any body of water, preferably the ocean though), making new friends, catching up with old friends, my family, my Subaru, watching horror movies and cuddling, watching comedies and laughing till I snort, getting fancied up and going out, beer, wine, wearing sweat pants and taking naps, YOGA, human sexuality, running, being active, cooking, eating, writing, arts & crafts, DANCING, music, live music, gardening, being sarcastic, listening, communicating... ok, there's more but it's getting a little ridiculous. For the full list, we'll just have to get to know one another!

PHILOSOPHY

I try to live my life day by day. Sometimes planning is necessary - which I accept and participate in - but generally I like to be as present in the moment as I possibly can be. In my opinion, some important aspects to living a peaceful and happy life: tolerance, respect, perspective and moderation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have yet to host anyone but I do look forward to the day that my living situation allows it. My friend Callie and I are currently on a cross-country trip and have couch-surfed, and will continue to couch-surf as we trek across the US. I plan to couch-surf while in Europe next summer as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch-surfed a few times and it's been absolutely wonderful!

Interests

See "All about me" section.

I adore food. Everything from the growth of produce, to the creation of meals, to the final and most important stage - indulgence. I enjoy creative forms of self-expression, whatever that may mean to you. Personally, I LOVE to dance. I also enjoy arts&crafts and anything that involves fabric. Lastly, I have always found myself most comfortable and at peace when outside. Whether hiking, camping, tree-climbing or just laying in the grass - I feel a strong connection with nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy most music but the genres that move me most are funk, rock and disco.
I enjoy most movie genres but I do tend towards horror and comedy.
I enjoy reading cook books, anything that discusses a culture, sub-culture or group of people... I enjoy learning new things.

I enjoy experiencing new things. I'm a pretty open person and I'm willing to try/read/listen to/watch anything at least once.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've gone skydiving which was incredible. Also, I'm currently traveling cross-country in my Subaru with my friend Callie. We've tried to keep the trip varied so we've done a good amount of couch-surfing but we've also camped quite a bit and stayed in a few hotels, as well as worked on a farm and stayed with friends/family. So far it's been the greatest thing I've done in my life. I hope to have many more experiences like this.

Teach, Learn, Share

Oh my... I don't know where to begin with this. I'd be excited to learn anything! What can I bring to the table? Hmm... Well, I have a degree in Anthropology and I could ramble about that for a while. I love food and have a bit of knowledge in that field. I enjoy psychology, evolution, human sexuality and the nature-nurture discussion.

Essentially, I believe we all have room to learn and information to share. Communicating with other people can be a wonderful experience and opportunity to grow. One must remember to be respectful, open and kind.
