About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Connecting to Berlin - have fallen for the metropole and want to fall right into it, soon!

ABOUT ME

Hello everybody!

I'm Jessica, 24 yrs old, living in Germany and would like to travel much more. I find UK and the Scandinavian countries really fascinating and plan to go to Sweden or Norway after my trip to Edinburgh in July.
Besides travelling I have a great affinity to music: I sing in an acapella choir group, play the acoustic and bass guitar, have been playing the viola for almost 8 yrs and since recently I am also singer in a prog-rock band. I just love getting together with others and starting up something, which can be a jam session or a big party. I feel most relaxed and pleased when I'm around people and couldn't imagine my life without all those great persons I share my life with.
I'm planning to move to Berlin soon and am now organizing my move there. I'm really excited about the upcoming changes in my life and hope that everything will be alright. I can't wait!

PHILOSOPHY

Although I tend to overpower biology in my world view as I am a biology student I am really convinced that everyone's life is to be formed and developed by the persons who live it. I am a great exponent of the thought that true happiness comes to a great deal from the freedom to live the life which one wants for him/herself. I think everyone should be able to live as autonomous as possible to achieve their most desired goals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have already been couchsurfing a lot with friends all around Germany and want to collect more cs experiences soon. I also have been host to friends even if the space I had to offer has been limited I always got positive feedback.
What I really enjoyed was this one time when I visited an acquantaince of mine in his home town. I got to know him so much better although I was staying only for a weekend. He was also very lovely as he planned a lot of interesting activities for our weekend, showed me around the city and had many, many ideas where we could stop by and have lunch, a drink or a piece of yummy cake. He really inspired me to become an even better host to my own guests!

Interests

I spend a lot of time for some of my greatest interests. Music is one of my most favoured hobbies, as I love to listen to rock, alternative, prog rock, dark wave, ebm and industrial and like to explore new genres of music.
But I also like to participate myself in making new music as I'm an ardent singer in a choir as well as solo. I also play some instruments (acoustic guitar, bass guitar, violin&viola, not to mention the greatest of all instruments: the HEAVENLY KAZOO! :D) and just love to make music together with others.
I also love to draw and paint and am a big fan of impressionistic work. I enjoyed to see real Turner paintings in London and am an enthusiastic art museum visitor in general.
One other great interest of mine is cooking and baking as I live vegetarian for over 10 yrs and am therefore really excited to try out new recipes and create my own delicious veggie experiences. I'm already planning the next big cupcake contest with a friend of mine - nearly can't wait for it!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love dark and strange movies and I am also a big fan of twisted plots, dramatic soundtracks and deep character development. I really enjoyed to watch Moon, Shame, Requiem for a Dream and other Aronofsky movies like The Fountain, Black Swan and Pi. I also like odd Eastern Movies like Oldboy or Hero. Cashback, Never Let Me Go and Melancholia as well as Tarantino's like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained also belong to my must-have-seen-movies-list.

Musically I'm interested in rock music, but also in dark wave/ebm. Bands I love to listen to are Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Klangstabil, The Strokes, Deine Lakeien, Rammstein, Placebo, Nirvana, IAMX or Infected Mushroom;

And I love to read fantasy books and funny literature. I'm a fan of Terry Pratchett and Matt Ruff. Fool on the Hill and Bad Monkeys are great books. The last Pratchett I have read was The Wintersmith - a book for kids but still very entertaining.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Playing with the string quartet we performed a short piece in our school music hall. I was left really awestruck as I took some time to realize that I have missed the entry for my solo completely and tried to slide in at a later moment. The woman playing the cello was laughing so hard as this happened during the concert that she almost threw her bow away. This was such a heart-warming experience in the end - I really miss my string quartet and hope to make such wonderful music with wonderful people like them again!
