Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To create a beautiful life

ABOUT ME

I am a nice, curious, go-with-the-flow kind of person with a thirst for knowledge and adventure, though I've spent much of my life thus far in school or, lately, in an office. I can be pretty quiet (and I'm a great listener!) but I also love getting into lively conversations and story-telling visits with friends, old and new. I have a profound respect for other cultures, especially indigenous cultures since I come from the Kwakwaka'wakw people of the west coast of Canada.

My friends would probably also say that I'm a bit of a workaholic, but never entirely predictable.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My husband and I have hosted since 2010, and I try my best to be a great hostess (cooking, touring, visiting) when I can :)

Intereses

I'm in love with the arts, and do some dabbling of my own in everything from visual art (photography, print making, sketching) to music (singing, piano) and I particularly love finding beautiful local art or children's books to take home with me when I'm travelling.

I love to cook (and eat!) and, if I had more time, I think I would love to grow a lot of my own food. For that matter, self-sufficiency is something I'm really interested in, though it's going to be a while before my hubby and I can be more self-sufficient.

Música, películas y libros

books - most of them, especially "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
art - Impressionism & post-impressionism, folk art
music - anything good :) especially old folk singer/songwriters like Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan... but also a lot of modern music, electronic, pop, indie... some favourites are Neko Case, Fleet Foxes, FEIST, Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, Connie Converse, Tycho, Edward Sharpe, etc. etc.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Advocating for aboriginal rights in front of 300+ students in Ottawa, 2007 - The feeling of camaraderie, the overwhelmingly positive comments and demonstrations of support for our cause, this is one of the magic moments that solidified my faith in the power of community.

Boat ride with killer whales, 2003? - On a boat trip back to Port Hardy with my family, my aunt & I were suntanning on the bow of our little boat, just a foot or so from the water, when a pod of killer whales started swimming alongside us on either side!

Family dinner, June 9 2012 - Just this past week we had a big family dinner, with aunts, uncles, cousins, my husband, friends, and even our brand-new baby cousin... What was so awesome about this was just how much love we all showed each other, dancing and visiting and eating and hugging and even playing legos... This is my favourite kind of awe-inspiring moment :)
