ABOUT ME

My name is Jessica Spruill. I am a college student from Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. I have an adventurous spirit and an upbeat personality. One of my favorite hobbies of all time is meeting new people and hearing their stories. I take time to invest in other people's lives, whether they are a stranger or a friend. My heart lies in earth's natural treasures. Nothing pleases me more than to get lost in nature. I am also a very active human. I enjoy swimming, running, cycling, climbing, yoga etc. I live for physical, outdoor activities. I am also a very inquisitive person. As I've grown up, I have realized that I have an insatiable curiosity for knowledge and enlightenment. I love to read and learn about new things. I've also been told I have an infectious personality. I want to be friends with everybody and I want to fill people around me with peace and happiness.

PHILOSOPHY

I live for discovery, enlightenment and truth. I live for love, for beauty, and for passion. My mom always taught me to have "Joie de vivre"- a joy of living. I try to be happy everyday and appreciative of everything I have been given in this life.

Interests

I spend a lot of my time thinking- thinking about the cosmos, the human condition, our natural environment, the evolution of society, and the list goes on. I'm a dreamer. I am an explorer. I want to learn everything about the world around me, process that information, and voice my own theories concerning the mysteries of life.
I am planning on becoming an engineer, so a lot of my life is centered around studying mathematics and physics. I definitely have a passion for what I study. I love learning about mathematics and I love discussing areas of science with others, whether they be experts or completely ignorant to scientific concepts.
Much of my spare time is devoted to environmental activism. I am involved in multiple grassroots organizing groups, who's goal is to promote clean energy and sustainability. I truly believe that if you cherish something, like our planet's natural resources, then you should pour your heart into protecting it.
I try to really appreciate the small pleasures of life. I spend a lot of my time cooking, listening to good music, drinking wine with friends, trying different types of coffee, going to concerts, attending musicals and plays, and trying to enjoy life in every way possible.
In short, my interests are vast and varied, which makes my personality compatible with many different types of people

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So far my travels have been slightly limited. I am only 23, so I still have a lot of time. Thus far, I have traveled all across the United States, spent a few days in Paris, a few days in London, and two weeks in Italy. Highlights from my world travels so far include a magnificent 7 mile hike in Grand Teton National Park and seeing a church service at the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Last summer, I went on a 2 month trip across the United States. The trip was an interdisciplinary field program focusing on geology, ecology, and anthropology of the Western United States. We covered 10,000 miles in 2 months, visiting 20 National Parks and 6 major cities from coast to coast. Needless to say, it was a life changing experience. Out of all the awe inspiring sites I saw, I would have to say that Grand Teton National Park was my favorite. We went on a 7 mile hike up a massive glacial valley. Along the way we saw moose, waterfalls, and breath taking vistas at every turn. At the end of our hike, we all took a dip in the ice covered waters of Lake Solitude. I have never felt so alive in my entire life.
When I was 16 my Grandma took me on two week guided trip through Italy. This was the first time I had ever been out of the country, so I was completely besides myself with joy. On our first day in Rome, we visited St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. I was simply incredulous as I gazed upon Pope Benedict as he spoke to the crowd of thousands gathered around this heavenly structure. I just remember thinking, how in the world did mere human beings create something so divine? That day, the city of Rome stole my heart. I am still itching to return to the city that made me hopelessly fall in love with travel.
