About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Writing my PhD, working towards more diversity in science, becoming the adult my ID says I am.

FIRST THINGS... OR, WELL, SECOND I GUESS

I try and keep my calendar updated, so that you can only send me requests when I'm available. So please use the request-function, not the message function, if you'd like to stay with me. That way it'll save both of use some time and effort. :)

Also, since my life is very busy right now, I usually won't be able to tell you whether I can host you or not more than a couple of weeks in advance. So last minute requests are preferred :) Also, please read the *to CS looking to stay with me* section, thanks!

Please be advised that I don't have any rooms to rent out and to me CS isn't a dating app, so please don't message me about flats&flirting.

And finally I, already have a wonderful group of friends here in Munich/Berlin, that unfortunately I don't get to spend enough time with, so I'm not really looking for new connections to Munich/Berlin locals and online-friends (i.e. person you've never met before) aren't really for me either. I'm sure you're a wonderful person but friendships, like all relationships, require work and I wouldn't be able to spend the time needed on a new friendship right now, sorry :(

ABOUT ME

Grew up partly in Germany and partly in France and live in Munich, Germany commuting to Berlin and Potsdam. I'm a PhD candidate in history. I'm also a union organizer, like to write and act, both probably rather mediocerly (is that a word?) as a hobby but hey, it's about the fun! I love hiking and nature/bird-watching and am open to pretty much all outdoor activities that won't get me killed or have me come withing 1 kilometer (or 0.6 miles for our U.S. friends) of a snake, as they are clearly evil and out to destroy humanity.

RANDOM THINGS I LIKE AND DISLIKE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER OR IMPORTANCE:

Likes:
Trains, even delayed ones
Learning new recipes that don't include chili
Finding my keys/not having myself locked out (again)

Dislikes:
Texting/Chatting via text
Chairs that tilt when you lean back
Snakes- even those that are technically just legless lizards that just look like snakes, same difference to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting mostly, but also surfing every now and then. I really enjoy showing people my little village to people from all over the world. Now, you may say, wait, Munich has 1.5 million people, it's hardly a "village", but you'd be wrong. It really is. If you expect a big city you'll probably disappointed. It's a 1.5-million-people village, but then that's part of its charm.

When I am traveling, I love to see the places I visit from the locals' perspective, so seeing all the places that aren't written about in tourist guide books, do the things that people normally do :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCES

While travelling, I especially love the things that you would have never ever thought to do or see that many of my wonderful hosts have taken me to. They are some of my most cherished travel experiences, and I'm so grateful to all the wonderful hosts who made this possible :)

When hosting, I love how every CS brings their own culture and will just make me see things and my home in ways I've never seen it before.

But mostly, I just love meeting all these great people that are part of the CS community :)

TO FELLOW COUCHSURFERS LOOKING TO STAY WITH ME

Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Please send me an actual request, not a message. I block the dates when I can't host on the calendar, so if you can't send me a request, it means I can't host. Also, it just feels better to me to know that CS knows someone is staying with me.

I love hosting, but have found that cultural differences can be a bit challenging. To avoid any hard feelings I kindly ask that, if you'd like to stay with me, you give me an estimated time of arrival and try your best to stick to it. It doesn't need to be precise down to the minute (saying you'll arrive between ten and eleven works for instance), but I feel like I need a new system, since I've recently spent four hours waiting for a guest to arrive and have often waited for several hours for other guests. Obviously there's always something that can go wrong and you don't need to feel bad if it does, but I would appreciate it, if you tried :) Thank you!

And finally, I known it may seem strange to non-Germans but privacy and data protection are very important in German culture and just to me personally. Therefore I won't give you my phone number or IG handle and also won't accept friendship requests until we've met in person, bc it just feels weird somehow...😅

Thank you for understanding!

Also ***please mention in your request that you have read this*** so I know that you know. Thank you! It'll also greatly improve your chances for a yes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Whenever I think about this question I feel like I've done nothing unique, extraordinary or amazing (though being able to travel is always a wonderful experience). I just feel pretty average and that's fine with me.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're open to it I'd love to cook a dish from your home country :) _ To be fully transparent, aside from meeting new people, I mostly travel to eat great food, so I'd love for you to bring your cuisine to me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

It's become one of my travel traditions to make an Apple-Strudel or Quark-Strudel for my hosts (if they like), as a way of saying thank you, when I stay on someones couch and I'd love for that tradition to continue and of course it can be done as a vegan version if you like :)
