About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to travel more without going broke!

ABOUT ME

I'm an applications analyst (web programmer) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I live in Carrboro (a small town right next to Chapel Hill... like literally right beside it... their downtowns connect).

PHILOSOPHY

I'm not too liberal or conservative, and actually don't like talking about politics too much unless I know someone well, though I have my opinions. I'm not religious, but respect the beliefs of others as long as they don't pressure me to believe. I generally just find that people who are tolerant and try to get along with others are the happiest and most fun to be around.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can offer a spare room with a queen bed, and visitors would be welcome to use my kitchen and guest bathroom while staying. Depending on how comfortable I feel around the person, I would ask that they only be in my home when I am there... at least at first.

Warning: We have two long-haired cats and a small dog, so people allergic to pets probably shouldn't stay unless they can control it with medicine.

Also: I verified myself on here, and I'm only willing to host other verified surfers. $25 isn't much to spend to put people at ease, and it means you have access to dozens or even hundreds of free nights around the world each year. Please take the time to do that if you'd like to stay, or else please be ready to provide some sort of other identification/references.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't couch-surfed yet using this service, but have slept on a lot of couches in my life and find it to be a great way to travel cheap (or free!).

Interests

Things I like: frisbee, chess, coffee, horror movies, languages and linguistics, travel, photography, web design and programming, talking.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't read a lot, but enjoy it when I do - mostly science fiction, though I'll read the occasional classic as well. I like horror and sci-fi movies a lot, but also enjoy other genres, including (embarrassingly?) chick flicks sometimes. I like a variety of music, but am not very good at collecting it... so I'm not a loyal fan, but I really enjoy music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Epworth, Georgia when I was a teenager, and one night the ocean was completely still and glass-like... almost like sheets of ice sliding over each other... even though it was very windy and still pretty hot out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't know what to put here in particular, but if a visitor wants to learn about English, German or web development, I'd be glad to help with any of those. I can also teach you to play chess if you don't know how. I can also open beer bottles several different ways, and can pour a Hefeweizen into a glass the right way, in case either of those appeal to you. :)
