About Me
CURRENT MISSION
The world is like a book - I want to explore, appreciate, and embrace every page!
ABOUT ME
My name is Jenna and I am currently studying for a degree in Economics at Brown University. I grew up in a small country farm town in central Illinois. I absolutely love traveling and am so fascinated by different people and cultures. After graduating from high school, I decided to take a gap year prior to university to travel with my best friend, which was my first time out of the country. We both lived with a separate host family in Spain to teach English for 3 months, did some backpacking through Morocco and a trek through the Sahara, volunteered for 6 weeks in Uganda, and spent the remainder part of the year backpacking through Thailand and completing a 10 day meditation course in Malaysia. Since this trip, I am afraid to say I have been diagnosed with the travel bug :)
Film is also a huge hobby of mine. I was on the E-Board for "Brown Motion Pictures"––a student group at Brown that creates and screen short films from scratch. And, I had the opportunity in September of 2013 to film my first independent documentary with my brother in South Africa to create a social awareness of cancer stigma.
I will be studying in Oxford, England this upcoming school year (2014/15), and as term doesn't start until mid-October, I am planning on backpacking for two months beforehand. I will be going to Iceland, Ibiza, Italy, Israel, Prague, and then ultimately back to England for school. I think so highly of the couchsurfing community and have been blessed to have met so many wonderful and kind people through this site. I look forward to traveling again this fall.
PHILOSOPHY
I enjoy getting to know all types of people from different parts of the world, different backgrounds, religions, personalities, etc....the real beauty of this world is that every single person has their own fascinating story, personal qualities, and philosophy on life...and we can learn something new every day from the different types of people that we meet. But we can also miss so many of these things if we don't open our hearts and minds to everyone out there..
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am looking to surf this year as I carry out my study abroad plans during university. When I am not traveling, I want to return the favor by hosting surfers and showing them around. I can see this is a wonderful and united community and I'm so happy to be involved in it! :)
