ABOUT ME

John: Exploring the world and enjoying sharing my discoveries and experiences with others. I love the outdoors and especially the ocean- be it surfing, swimming, snorkeling, spearfishing, anything close to water really. Mountains too- on bike or on foot. As much as I enjoy the wilderness, cities offer an urban avenue for discovery and learning about other cultures and ways of life. Being open minded is so important in order to most positively live my life. I really enjoy connecting with other open-minded people who like to laugh, adventure and eat tasty food.

Kristy: I love cooking, gardening, baking, eating - anything involving food! I love being outdoors -hiking, surfing, biking - whatever!

PHILOSOPHY

I like finding out what is around the next corner. I'm not terribly hard to please- I just really enjoy exploring and sharing my discoveries with other people.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Looking to travel and stay with people who simply enjoy life and are eager to share their local knowledge. Hopefully in turn, I can host and give back by showing them some of the most beautiful places in California when they visit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to travel around the country in a camper van... and then I found out about CSing. I've surfed couches around the United States a few times, and have hosted a few times, most notably with Filip from Belgium. We hit it off and he ended up staying with me for almost a month and learned to surf California's waves. He's visited me since then and I had a chance to stay with him in Belgium in 2010 (as well as a lot of other Euro-hosters).

The recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina. Meeting some guys in Nicaragua who had ridden their bikes all the way from Canada... and then seeing that they were riding bmx bikes without multiple gears!

Map navigation if that counts. I have made it my mission to to explore lesser known trails, beaches, and backroads. I try to find the tucked away gems in California that many don't know about. I'd love to share my finds with people who would appreciate the knowledge... if they can keep a secret (wink wink).
