Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Separation of corporations and state

ABOUT ME

I am a political junky. I love the outdoors, particularly the ocean, and I love to travel. Lately I have been doing a lot of gardening.

PHILOSOPHY

A good society knows what to make private and what to make public. It is common to hear people say that communism works in theory, but not in practice. I posit this same argument for capitalism. The truth is that philosophically both systems have their strengths, but practically neither can operate without human interests corrupting them.

Thus, in modern american society we can look to beer as a great example of successful capitalism. A podunk town like Albuquerque has about 10 microbreweries. All over the country good beer is being offered at cheap prices. This is what we want from capitalism, profits driven to zero. The only way to compete is through price reduction or better product offerings.

However in practice this is not what happens all the time. We can look at the telecommunications industry as an example of failed capitalism. This industry lobbies government heavily to create high barriers to entry and help protect their status quo. By all measure, American internet access is among the most expensive and slowest in the world. This is because government is working in concert with corporations to prevent capitalism in telecommunications.

We need to support politicians who can tell the difference between those industries that should be profit driven and those that should not. I want capitalism to prevail in energy, telecommunications and beer. I want socialism to prevail in prisons, defense, education and healthcare. ]

I do not think these are radical ideas. I think if we could sever the umbilical cord between our politicians and corporations we could go a long way towards satisfying both the left and the right.

I think with campaign finance reform and the removal of corporate lobbyists we could find a much more honest world where we could have discussions about taxes and social problems in respectful manners. Thus, we all need to resist the corporate takeover of our politicians and we need to hold them all accountable from Bush to Obama.

Our current system is corrupt and tainted and I no longer care who started it. Lets fix it. Lets kick corporations out.
